Reet. Looking to change my car in 2009 or so. Minimum criteria to be followed (more is better but may be excessive) :

Budget is about £10,000 used or new (preferably new)

Must be very reliable (as in the polar opposite to an Alfa)

ABS

Air con

Front electric windows

ESP

2 front airbags

Central locking

Immobiliser

High urban MPG (35 or more)

Petrol or diesel - but at least 50bhp

Newer than 2001

Optionals : (things that would be nice but non essential)

5 doors

Climate control

Cruise control

Front fog lights

Interior light delay

As much as I love my Yaris - Id rather something different for my next car. If I can't come up with anything though - a new Yaris will still be nice - obviously

The new Corsa is pretty tempting ...... loads of different models/engines

Doesn't look to bad either - and if you are buying new it will be under warranty so if things do go wrong it shouldn't be a problem

Skoda Fabia VRs. Has everything you've said, 1.9 TDi (130bhp std), group 9 insurance (Thats peanuts compared to other cars), cheaper than a VW/Seat but performs as well if not better in most aspects (also its group 11-12 although its has exactly the same engine etc etc). Complete underdog (or so it seems :)) and lightly modded to an easy 170-180bhp (with >£500 budget). Spend a little more on modding your looking at 200-230bhp. Around £6k (03-05 reg) and up to £10k (05-06 reg) (if you want the ltd edition racing blue that'll be about £11k-ish new).

So very nearly picked a Skoda rather than a Yaris Ts you see. Very very tough choice. It came down to money at the end of the day :( cant afford to pay £7k for a play car just yet.

Wait til 2009... might be a new model out that tickles your fancy... plus you might change your mind between now and then

Get a Mk4 Golf, I'm very biased admittedly but it ticks all the boxes & my 150 bhp GT TDI is better than my old Yaris is every aspect apart from the fact that it has less storage space for small random things (a great feature of the Yaris) & is probably slightly less reliable, although after over a year of driving I still haven't had a problem with mine

Should mention insurance is an issue. Nothing over group 5. So Golf Gtis and Fabia VRSs are out.

I do like Fabia VRSs. NO-ONE expects to be burned off at lights by a Fabia. Then again, these ARE the same people that think 206's are 'rapid'

Aygo ticks all those boxes except climate control, cruise control and interior light delay but you would come away with brand new car, and £2k in ya pocket to add those missing bits if u wanted is insurance group 1 very low running cost £35 tax approx 50mpg and are well just cool..:P

oooh its flaws are very minor, some ppl on the forum may have had some individual problems but i think u will find the average aygo owner very happy, (hmm idea for another poll :lol2: ) think the only thing that sometimes annoys me about the aygo is no bootlight but i fixed that on 1st one for £5 from B&Q :D go test drive one and u will be sold! I have had two now a + and now a blue, theres a new plantinum thats coming out soon that looks very interesting

GOLF GT,i had one from work its twin charged turbo and supercharger on a 1.4,

this means 135mmph plus 0-60 in 7.3 and still gives over 45mpg,but the best bit is the supercharger handles lower revs and then the turbo kicks in up the rev range

so any gear any revs put your foot down and it goes no wait no lag

its been called the miracle engine, saldy topgear gave it a bad review simply because then had a quick blast in it but due to it being twin charger it takes a day or two to adapt your driving style or it feels jerky, one you got the hang of it,any other car seems very poor

its so good the sales reps were arguing over it wanting to leave there BMW csi's for it
