Celica Gt Heating Fault

Hi There,

need some help if thats cool. I got a 1997 Celica GT and i ve got a fault with the heaters.

It used to take a few minutes for the heaters to come on but now it takes at least 15 minutes or longer, if at all to come on. The temperature gauge operates normally then starts to go above the limit, which gets me ever so slightly worried :( When the heaters do decide to come on , the temperature gauge retreats to its normal (just below halfway) position.

I have changed the thermostat (as advised here on other posts) and topped up the coolant accordingly to no avail. Basically now im at a loss plase help!

Dunno about the heaters but the fluctuation in the gauge could be down to air in the system. Start with a cold engine, remove expansion tank cap. start engine, at idle allow it to heat up. Check coolant is at required level, top up as necessary.

Was'nt advised directly, I read similar posts from other people with similar probs, plus non Toyota owners were suggesting changing the Stat. I dont mind, cause it was only a tenner, but because its of the weather im freezing me nuts off driving the car lol

I ll certainly give that a try, probably tomorrow and report back any probs, cheers. :)

Hi guys,

just a progress report,

after i changed the thermostat, i flushed the radiator and added new coolant to the required level.

After an anxious wait, the heaters finally came on after 10 mins, the coolant is keeping its level and everything seems to be ok ( i dont want to say too much just incase lol) As for the water leak, i not sure, i dont know enough about the car to say theres an overspill or relief valve in the system incase theres an air lock but theres nothing leaking at the mo, so hopefully fears of the head gasket going ( they was no white gunk mixed on the oil filler cap, or watery oil to suggest this) have been confounded.

Thanks for you help Eirecelica :)

peace

No problem, don't think I hit any nail on the head though. If you lose any more coolant a bottle of rad weld wouldn't go astray, cheap start anyway :)
