Yaris Mmt Diesel

I currently I have a 6 months old Aygo+ MMT but there will be a time when I could do with a bigger car. This will not be for a while but I wondered how easy it is to fit pushchairs/prams in a Yaris? i honestly can't see my 3 door Aygo as being any good with kids, partly as the seats have no memory and there is no passenger light that comes on when the door opens! I couldn't stand keep having to adjust my driving seat all the time!!

I am eventually looking to get the Yaris MMT Diesel as the fuel efficiency seems to be comparable to the Aygo but I only have an automatic licence. My Aygo sometimes feels a bit sluggish pulling away at roundabouts but I have always put that down to having a 1 litre engine. However, My Aygo manages to get up a 14% hill every day on the way home from work at 40 mph in 2nd gear so any improvement on that is a plus for me! Since I have limited experience with driving anything else, (except when I got my licence 5-6 years ago with an old style CVT car), I have not got the usual complaints about the Aygo's MMT purely as I don't remember what it was like to drive a CVT as I took many years to get a car as I was a student.

Is the MMT gearbox on the Yaris similar to the Aygo or is it noticably inferior?

If the Yaris is worth it, then I know what to put my savings towards!

Thanks,

Catherine

Can't comment on a manual yaris, but your aygo may have been a bit sluggish pulling away at roundabouts simply because its a auto! I had a manual yaris, 1ltr, and it was fine pulling away from anywhere, as long as it was in a low gear! Overtaking only needed 4th gear, foot down all the ay to 70mph then into 5th gear! Great car.

I hope you are considering a 5 door yaris though for when you have kid/s . . for obvious reasons. I'd say the boot space would be plenty big enough for a pram or pushchair, and you can always get another few presious inches in the boot by bringing the back seats forward! As I have always told my friends . . you can get anything in a yaris! Friends were always amazed at the amount of cupholders I had . . one for every seat. Ok, so these may not be what you are considering, but you'd miss them if they weren't there! and they're great for when its your turn to do the mc donalds run!

lol. Enjoy your car search. don't forget to let us know what you get in the end . .

I am sure that someone will be along shortly to give you the advice that you orginally asked for! :bye:

I'm certainly not about to get a new car right now as firstly its going to be sometime before any children are on the way but I thought it might be worth being in the know with regards to finance so I can think ahead for when money will be tight. I think it will take me a while (years probably!!) before I have the right amount of cash to upgrade but having some plan of what to save for helps me to budget. After all, when I have to give up work and buy all sorts of pricy things, a car is not something I want to have to change without putting money aside first.

I did think being an auto was the cause of the sluggishness in the Aygo but I certainly did not want to then get a new car and it to be worse! I'd have thought the bigger engine would help it a bit though compared to the Aygo and I suppose being a Diesel might help?

I was definitely not going to go for a 3 door car as it would be a pain to strap in little ones and not only that, moving seats around is a real annoyance particularly in the Aygo as it doesn't remember the last position. That's good news about the boot space in the Yaris. i did not think there was a lot of difference in the space between the Aygo and Yaris but it is probably more about the dimensions than the actually capacity of the boot.

As for cup holders, that sounds useful to store little bits and pieces like a £1 for the Dartford Crossing and that sort of thing if I'm not drinking tea/coke!

Thanks for the advice. It's useful to know about its storage capacity as I would prefer a small car whilst still being able to fit in all the baby related stuff on trips out and a baby (or twins as they run in the family!!) can require a lot of kit which won't go into an Aygo!
