Avensis D4D T3X 2005

Anybody had a problem with their Avensis constantly steaming up - I suspect maybe blocked filters or similar. I have to use HRW and blower on full with aircon on to have any chance of seeing through the windscreen. The inside of the car is bone dry (except windows) Can anybody help ?

Hi there,

I have had this problem since day one with my car purchased new in 1999. The only way I have found round it is to ensure that the switch is set to take air from outside and not the switch that circulates air within the car. If anyone else has a better suggestion I would be most grateful as it can be a danger with how quickly the "fog" rolls in!

I think you will find that in any car if you set the air to recirculation mode your car will always be prone to getting steamed up!!! the only time I would put in a air recirculation mode is when following a car which is sending out a lot of pollutants

It may be a good Idea to make sure your front carpets are not damp

I would suggest replacing the filter.

Is the air getting through to the windscreen vent OK (maybe the air isn't being directed there properly)

Does the air blow fast in your face if you select it to? If not i'd definitely suspect a clogged filter.

I always have it set to "fresh Air" - even so it can fog up at any time.

With the blower on full it is not as powerful as my "old" avensis (02) on the screen though it is from the centre vents but weak at the side. Even on a 30 mile+ journey I need it on full constantly and it will fog up again if I slow the fan even for a few mins. - do you know where are these filters located and are they easy to change??

I think the filter is behind the glove compartment. To access the filter unit, I believe you have to remove the glove compartment .

(This procedure is in your owners manual)

I have noticed my MK2 avensis' fan to be less powerful than I expected, but it has never steamed up (except for when i've set it on recirc, but all cars do that)

Thanks Rossi - all sorted for £25 the fan must be at least twice as powerful now and no misting. The filter was black and full of debris new one is pure white!!!! Thanks again.

For those of you who do want to have recirc on like I do to keep out traffic fumes

and don't want fogged up windows at the same time, then this works a treat

Comma ProVision Fog Clear gel

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/prod.../antimists.html

(it also works when the weather is too cold for the air-con to work dehumidfying the air)
