Faulty Electrical Window Button

Hi all,

I have an Avensis -01 and recently the button used to disable the electric windows stopped working (his button is located on the driver door armrest next to the central door-locking button). When this button is pressed down it should remain pressed down (thus disabling the electric windows), end when it's pressed again it should pop up (thus not disabling the electric windows). My problem is that the button does not stay in the pressed down position.

My first plan was to open the unit consisting of 4 electric window buttons, one central locking button and last but not least the electric window locking button. I did however not succeed in disassembling this unit. Does anyone know how to remove the actual buttons from top of this unit? Without removing these buttons I can not take it apart. I have tried using some brute force byt they wont budge. I also asked my local Toyota dealer but they knew nothing.

Hope someone knows how to solve this problem. If I can take it apart then maybe I can just lubricate the faulty button and it will work again, who knows..

Thanks in advance, Jens

hi

if you open the screw in the little pocket on the electric unit, then pull the whole unit up or force a flat screwdriver in and pull the unit up. then clip the electric switch open and the unit will come out in your hands and free from the door panel. if you then turn the ubit around you should see 4-6 little silver screws. open these and take take the unit apart. there will be little springs in each button hole. in the faulty button hole the spring might be stuck. fiddle around with the spring until its in its original position. then put the jigsaw back together and jobs done!!!!!!!!!!!!

this happened to one of my cars and i managed to fix it like i explained to you!!

good luck!!

Hi,

After removing the 4-6 (4 in my case) silver screws I am not able to take the unit apart since I can not remove the buttons on top of the unit. Unless I can remove these buttons (4 electric window buttons, 1 central locking button and 1 electric window locking button) I can not take the unit apart. I have as of now only been able to remove the electric window button. I have linked to an image showing the buttons (marked with red circles) that I am not able to remove: Click me to see an image if the unit

How did you remove these buttons? I have tried using brute force but they wont come off, and if I pull any harder I am afraid I will break it.

Thanks, Jens

if you fiddle around with the window button spring and make sure its straight, then try it out. you should leave the other buttons as they are not faulty?

Hi,

And thanks for your quick answer. Fiddling with the window button spring does not seem to help. What I want to do is to open the unit in order to see what could be wrong in there, and maybe to replace ths button itself if I can't fix the existing one. And to do so I need to remove the other five buttons/knobs (see the image I linked to previously in this thread). Once I have done that I should be able to open the unit in half. The remaining five buttons hinder me from opening the unit, and I don't know how to safely remove them without causing additional damage to the unit.

/Regards, Jens

Sorry to disappoint, but there are no parts available to replace inside these switches, not from Toyota anyway, you have to replace the whole unit (not just one button) unless you can source something to fit yourself

Hi Andy,

A bit of a long shot looking at the date of your post, but do you remember which two wires you joined?

Regards,

Pete

With respect, why go to the bother. Switch unit is a sealed unit to a point ( I know your trying to save money) but your only going to end up with a pile of bits that you can fix if your lucky. Why not try a scrapper or price up a new one, you might get a surprise at price, it may well cost less than you think.
