Nissan Murano - Advice Please

I hate to say it, but I may be looking for another "Family Car".

I have been offered an excellent deal on a demo 57 plate Murano against my T180.

I know it's not going to be anywhere as economical to run or service or tax, but I am quite taken with it.

It's as fully loaded as the T180 - possibly even more so with the Bose stereo and reverse camera as standard.

I've been out for a brief run and all seems perfect (the 3.5 V6 makes a superb growl and it feels quicker than the T180 too) and I've got a 48 hour test drive coming next weekend to reallyhave a good look at it.

Just wondered if anyone has first hand knowledge of driving/running one - if not 3rd hand, Chinese Whispers/Hearsay will do!!

And of course any/all comments from my learned pals on here would be appreciated as well!!

It's not set in stone at all at the moment - watch this space!!

Cheers.

Paul.

Hi Paul, you bloody traitor :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Not having any experience of the Murano other than my opinion, it is awesome. Read a few reviews about it,

yes it does use the wrong type of fuel and will only give you 23 MPG compared to 40 MPG from your T180.

Power wise it will deliver 234 BHP and 0-62 time of 8.9 secs, the T180 gives you 175 BHP and 9.3 secs. So

yes its a beastie all right, top speed for both is 124 MPH. There is also a clever fold flat rear seat system

activated by pulling a single lever in the back which does everything automatically. This review I am quoting

from pitches it against the likes of a Range Rover Sport, and being biased as all the magazines are the RR

obviously won. But as I say IMHO bloody awesome, and as they say around here "your a long time deed" so

if you like go for it.............................traitor :D

No experience but I must say I like the look of them. You see a lot in the USA. I think it is probably up a step from a RAV toward the high end 4X4s but I don't think the residuals will fair as well as it will put the average punter off a bit.

Is there a nissan forum you could have a trawl around?

I'd say that 23mpg would be an average, i'd expect 18-20mpg round town

They look good but with petrol likely to hit £1.20 a litre by the end of this year selling a big engined car for a decent price in 2 or 3 years time may prove difficult.

Is there an LPG version,It's worth looking into conversion costs and warranty implications as doing it from new may prove cost effective, you'd get the benefit of 50p a litre for gas and improved resale value when you sell it making the conversion cost free

Thanks for the replies guys.

You've hit the nail on the head re higher than average running costs possibly affecting residuals, which is one of the areas of concern I have.

Not too sure where it falls on emissions for road tax either - I am a tight b#gger at heart really!!

Just been out again to have a drive past the dealers where the car is now parked up with a "Sold" sticker in the windscreen (I only paid a holding deposit FGS!!). It is a good looking car (it's in a colour called Urban Mist - kind of metallic grey), but I have more doubts about this than I've ever had buying any of the Rav's I've had.

Cheers.

Paul.

Don't do it Paul :( :( :( Your miss the RAV T180 too much... Yes the Murano is a nice car (my Uncle had one, now has a pathfinder, even better....) but the running costs will be astronomical in these times of Fuel costs where seeing...Also don't think the residues hold up much either. (you got lots of Hairdressing gear to transport around then..  )

It has all the gadgets on the Murano...remember seeing the black one they had at the motor show..Looked Awesome (including the glass gear knob) think it was riding on 20" rims as well and Bremo red callipers  You could always look forward to the Micra courtesy car when the Murano goes in for a service....Come on that's the real reason for this. ;) ;) Isn't it.......

Nissan Meccano? Isn't that a kit car? :g: Bothy and The Anchor would love that and I'm sure you will to Paul

Hope they supply you with enough nuts, but then, there is enough nuts on here if you need any more!

Don't forget, there will be some deliberate mistakes in the assembly instructions, just to get you to think about the engineering properly. :D

Yes, I do like Nissan vehicle names  - Nissan Meccano, Nissan Cashcow, Nissan 'Nowt..................:D

We were looking to get the Murano before the T180, but in the end as well as the higher running costs, it came down to boot space for us. As the spare wheel is in the boot like the Freelander2 it seriously impacts on what you can get in there.

With the T180 I can get 3 fully loaded tech divers each with twin 12l diving cylinders and an additional 11l stage cylinder each, and all the extra baggage and equipment required, and still get 1 peps in the backseat and 2 in the front!!

I had a Murano to test a couple of years ago and I couldn't even manage to get all the same kit in for only 2 people!
