Stereo Installation

I've been looking around this forum and the net for how to install a non-toyota car stero in my Yaris. But so far I've only found relevant information on how to replace what is currently there in the dashboard. What I want is actually to add an additional stereo without removing the old one, as in 6 months or so I will probably move the new stereo into another car, and I want it to be as easy as possible to reinstall the old default one.

So what I'm looking for is a guide that tells me how to install, if possible, a stereo in the hole beneath the current radio selectors?

(It's a -99 Yaris btw.)

Anyone have a guide laying around that goes through this procedure or know how to do it? As said I've found how to replace that whole area but I didn't find any useful information if it's possible to insert a stereo in the bottom of the default holder, as everyone else seems to replace the complete thingie.

How To's <- Just look here, there are a number of guides as to how. I followed them and did the same thing as you wish to do.

Still got the original cd player but with an aftermarket HU underneath.

Yeah, loads of howtos about mate.

Basically it'll cost about £20 in total to get the iso adaptor and new cage to fit the stereo off eBay.

Didn't take long to fit either. Only pain in the ***** was the centre mounted accessory socket.

The stereos look a bit different so I take asking before guessing :) The plastic chamber is removable from the default dash then?

Not the cage, just the plastic fascia - you'll have to buy a new one.

Indeed you should be able to. Ye, you have to remove the plastic coin tray before you can install the HU.
