Hi There.

This site was recommended to me. Im thinking of buying an MR2 1993ish maybe a bit younger within the next couple of months and wondered what the general consensus was on them.

Are there any known problems i should be looking out for or is there any thing particular i should avoid.

Thanks in advance

Dan.

Cheers for the welcome and the links,

The insurance between the n/a and turbo is that much so that isnt really a factor.

whats the average life of the turbo, even if it has been looked after they eventually ware out? would it be ok on a 10year old car.

Also whats the running costs like for the turbo, servicing etc?.

I read from that link you gave me its £500 for a cambelt change  seems alot, is that the same for the n/a

Sorry for all the questions.

Dan.

The 3SG(T)E engines are built to last m8, they're awsome quality.

Like with any old car there may be a few niggles that u need to get sorted but they're not too bad, (assuming u did your hwk and made sure u bought a car in good nick).

As for the pricing it is a little offputting but but there are places that'l do the job cheaper for ya, hint: becmoes Gold Member ;))

I'm not too sure on the exact prices for an n/a as i havent needed to change my belts yet :D

turbos don't fail with age it's either neglect or high mileage that'd kill them. they last vry well though as it's a toyota it's well built, reliable and will last

Ive owned a st202. I think the interior in a celica is nicer that the 2 and theres back seats and boot space.

And here is a saying thatll send shivers doon yer spine laddy..your never a real mr2 owner until youve crashed one....*cue ominous cackling*

If you're looking to buy an MR2, try the detailed buyers guides available as a download at www.sportscarguides.com/other - its 14 pages, covers all the models and variants, and has been put together with the assistance of the UK branch of IMOC ( International MR2 Owners club).
