Just do a quick search on warranties as various views have been posted before.

Cheers

As a rule of thumb you get what you pay for!

ALL warranties are insurance backed, you are insuring a list of parts not to go faulty inside a warranty period. The trouble with that is, say your big ends go (oooh err missus) does it mean they went through wear and tear or did they go through mechanical failure? A lot of parts on older cars "wear out"and are not covered under the warranty, compare lists of parts covered and what you have to do with regards to servicing etc, dont go for the cheapest option, take a good look at what is covered. Toyota extended warranties are excellent, but you would expect that from a manufacturer, but they are not cheap.

Well I agree with you (I think). I reckon the price of the warranty goes a long way towards your first repair and if nothing goes wrong your quids in!

I have to agree, although there are lots of people who don't have the discipline to make a regular payment into a high interest account, or indeed keep it there while it starts earning, service plans are similar, they suit lots of people, but not those who have the ability to stick a few quid away and save it for a rainy day

Just my little note about warranties etc...

Last February I bought a 3 doors Rav4 NRG at RRG Rochdale as approved Toyota occasion witch include 1 years warranty.

Months later when I took it to my local Toyota garage (Wolverhampton) they told me sorry we can’t fix your car since we don’t have an account with that warranty company… At this time I found out that it didn’t had an official Toyota warranty (what you should expect if you pay the big price and at an official Toyota garage) but an unknown dodgy Emac warranty! The RRG sales man never told me this and if they had done I never ever bought that vehile in the first place.

Yes, I know I should have checked this when I bought the vehicle but he my 5 doors Rav 4 I bought some years ago at Toyota Guildford was included an 1 years official Toyota extended warranty so I trusted Toyota Rochdale, wrong thinking!

I finally could repair the vehicle at Toyota Westlands but it took them a whole day to wait for authorization from Emac to start the repair… Nice one if you are on the move and have to pop in at a Toyota garage to fix an issue...

I had contact with Toyota UK about this and they told me that since the RRG group is that big they can use any warranty company they like… (their words not mine).

So now every time if I have something I have troubles. Most garages don’t want to repair or making excuses like that Emac pays only this amount of labour what is lower then ours etc etc. Have to explain every time the same warranty story to a garage. Pay the bill first and then try to get it back from Emac. Pay the diagnostics my self.

So if you ask me about buying a Toyota vehicle from a Toyota dealer with warranty and pay about £2k – £3k more than an indie… I could better keep those couple grants in my pocket and pay some part if something fails. I learned my lesson here.

Also if you want to take a warranty and want to stay with Toyota, please take the Toyota extended warranty as Kingo writes they are excellent (5 Doors Rav4 no problems) and no worries at every Toyota garage.
