Brake Caliper And Discs

I wonder if someone can clarify a situation.

I am told by Mr T that my front brake caliper has seized and the discs rusted. Slightly surprised as the front discs were fitten 18 months ago by Mr T and have only done 15k and i haven't painted my discs with salt during this time.

Anyway, the question is what spec of caliper and discs i need, as i visited http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ and they quote a single OR twin piston caliper for my Avensis vvti 1.8 2001, Y reg? A supplier for brake discs also said that there are two different types of disc and that i needed to supply a chassis number to check, which i find strange. I think the ones i need are the 275mm, 5 hole.

Any guidance appreciated.

regards

Yes a chassis number will be required, whats strange in that?, it gets you the right parts ;)

Only that i assumed that there would only be one part for a particular model and year of a car. I wanted to be sure that the supplier was correct in asking me for the chassis number. What about the calipers - are there also two options here for a vvti 1.8gs 2001 Y reg ?

In which case how do i tell if i have single or twin piston. Is it easy to tell from looking ?

thanks in advance.

What i discovered is that during the production period of the Y reg Avensis vvti in 2001, Toyota changed the braking components from a twin piston caliper to a single piston caliper. Therefore anyone with a car made duing this period will need to be doubly sure they are buying the correct brake component for the month their car was manufactured.
