Hi All!!

Just wondering if anyone on here has (or knows anyone who has) wired a road angel into the car but NOT using the cig lighter! I really wanna use the cig lighter for my I-Trip cause it has a nice holder and looks quite sweet but the road angel is a MUST

I don't want any double adapters cause it just looks naff so if anyone has any hints, tips, suggestions or clues they would be most welcome!!!

Don't let me down on this dudes!! I have faith in someone having a very tasty work around!!!

Cheers Lads!

Hi Marve, You can connect the road angel to the cig lighter and still have the cig lighter free, You simply take the cig connector out of the dash and cut the plug from the road angel wire so just the wires are exposed then you thread the wire next to the windscreen and through the dash until you reach the cig connector then you remove the original plug from the back of the cig connector put the road angel wires inside the original cig connector and plug the cig connector back again, then just put the cig connector back in the dash and you have a connected road angel plus an unoccupied cig lighter for whatever you want to use there. Great.

Ok cheers for the reply that sorta makes things a bit better.....however......

The I-Trip also powers the I-Pod so i think what totinn has suggested would mean it has no power? Correct me if I have read that wrong there (It's happened before!)

If that is whats possible to do would it also be possible to connect it directly to the fuse box? How much would I be looking at to get an auto electrician to do something like that for me?

If you connect the wires of the road angel on the backside of cig lighter (slip the road angel wires inside the original plug that powers the cig lighter), you don't use the plug itself (the front of the cig lighter), that still has power even though you have wires connected on its backside, so you can still connect the I-trip or any other device using its original plug.

I can't believe you'd take that kind of risk with your electrics.

The connectors aren't designed to have wires pushed into them. At least connect into the loom using scotch-locks or something and use an in-line fuse.

Scotch-Locks aren't everyone's favourite option but they were at least designed for that purpose, and I'm sure they're safer than pushing wires into the back of a connector.

If you get a short circuit that starts a fire then you'll probably find your insurance won't pay out if they think you've bodged the electrics.

My o/h had his sat nav hard wired into the cig lighter of his Skyline. It was a bit of a nightmare as the plug for the sat nav had resistors and all sorts in, but it was done by a proper auto electrician.

I don't have one, but have you thought about getting one of the "connects2" adaptors for your ipod, and keeping the cig lighter free for your Road Angel?

early road angels could be hard wired into 12v systems, as the new ones run around 5v i am not sure, i would email road angel directly
