Oil Choices For D-4d

Hi All,

Am looking for some 5W30 oil for our D-4D and wondered if the following would be okay?

Fuchs TITAN XTR 5W/30 High Performance Fuel Economy Synthetic Engine Oil

I've used Motul before in my Audi and it's been great; I'm assuming fully synthetic will be okay for the D-4D engine?

Hmmm, when I use their vehicle search tool, they recommend a 10W40 Semi-Synthetic oil for the RAV4 D-4D, like this one:

I'm a bit confused, because the handbook recommends 5W30 oil.

Which is more important - 5W30 vs 10W40 or semi-synthetic vs synthetic.

I can't seem to find a 5W30 semi-synthetic oil!

Don't beat yourself up about this. Any of the oils above are OK.

Fully synthetics are expensive but top end and you may find that consumption is higher as it clings more. I use semi-synthetic and I believe Kingo said Toyota do also.

I am always being asked about this, 5/30 OR 10/40 semi synthetic are perfectly acceptable. There are benefits to fully synthetic, but it is not a requirement.....It will also hurt your pocket more as well :D:

Go for branded quality oils and steer away from cheap and cheerfuls, you do get what you pay for

Regarding oils, Most Fords including all diesels run on 5w30 part synthetic and is available in 5 lit cans from all dealers at usually less than £20. Vauxhall use 10w 30 semi synthetic and again is very reasonably priced (£12.. These are genuine oils. Some toyota main dealers use much cheaper bulk oil for servicing.
