Avensis Standard Alarm

I have noticed an intermittent problem with my Avensis alarm over past few years.

Every now & then, the alarm system totally ignores the key fob. It usually lasts a day or so then all is fine. I know it`s not a key fob Battery issue as my wife has a new fob/battery & car ignores her key fob as well. After a day or so, everything is back to normal.

Any ideas ? I suspect it`s a radio/receiving issue as my father-in-law told me of a story recently when several cars on his street totally failed to respond to their owners remote key fobs. They thought it was some form of radio signal blocking the receiver.

That's interesting , I was going to post a very similar thread on the Rav4 forum. Went over to my parents place yesterday , something I have done hundreds of times with my car without any problem. When I tried to leave the vehicle ignored the key fob. Could get in the car and start it with the alarm going using the key , eventually it started working OK and went to the supermarket and home with no problem. Having worked in broadcasting I'm well aware of problems with eg Rover cars near high powered transmitters but don't think this is the issue in this case. I assumed it was the keyfob Battery as it is over 5 years old so I've swapped to the second key. Having tried them both today however, they both work fine , so next time I will try them both if I can.

I also have this problem intermittently. The car is parked in the same place every day and yet approximately 2-3 times a month the remote doesn't work. I have had to start using the key now to lock the vehicle as once I couldn't get into the car! I thought it might be to do with some WiFi network or something - there are no visible powerlines nearby. If anyone can help solve this issue, I would be very grateful.

Can someone clarify exactly where the receiver is and what it looks like ?

Sorry to bump such an old topic but I'm now having this problem almost every day. I now lock the car using the key only and then when I next use it I try to unlock using the remote which most of the time doesn't work. Thankfully I can then at least unlock with the key without setting off the alarm! Locking is not a problem at all and works every time. Any suggestions?

Changing the Battery seems to have solved the problem this time although it didn't last time! Must have been a different issue!
