Need Some Info On The Gen 6 Celica

Hi all

I've got a GT-Four '94 WRC and i'm forced to consider selling due to lack of money. The main concern is the expense of the parts should anything go wrong. The super strut suspension is knocking and the exhaust needs replacing. I am aware that both of these things together will cost me around a grand to fix, which of course just isn't practical.

I want to stick with the Celica for obvious reasons, but thought perhaps I should go for a less high maintenence model...which brings me to my question: Are the parts for the standard GT (Gen 6) still just as high priced as the GT-Four such as exhaust etc - or am I better off looking for a different car altogether. As I say i'd love to stick with the Celica, just just need one for now thats a little less stressful on the wallet.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Anything but the GT4 and the SS2 that has the superstrut has running costs similar to most other 2L cars. A Celica GT UK spec has 170 ish bhp and an unabused example with 100K ish miles on it could be bought for less than £3000 and give years of motoring with little expense apart from oil, filters, pads and tyres, and cam belt if required. Personally I would stay away from the 1.8 Gen 6, the 140 bhp 3sfe isn't too bad though, good enough acceleration.

Thanks for the heads up. I plan to stay clear of the 1.8, too little power after having the GT4. But its good to know that the GT UK spec will be do-able. I'll post back here as I look around incase I have any more queries.

Cheers!
