2002 Rav 4 Ipod Install

My daughter has a 2002 Rav4 diesel with the original Toyota cassette/radio.

She wants an Ipod and as far as we can see that requires a new Toyota cd/radio head unit or an aftermarket one. She really likes the Toyota look and so the questions are:

Which Original Equipment Toyota CD/radio will work and has Ipod capability?

If there is one, what is the model number?

Is it a straight plug-in and will all the functions work?

Will it control the factory CD changer under the seat? (note: this has not been wired up yet, she bought it recently)

Or is it better to just install an aftermarket unit?

I looked with the search function, but couldn't find any answers.

Thanks

My understanding is that if the head unit will drive a CD autochanger it has the remote CD input and can be fitted with an Ipod interface. See the pinned maintenance instructions.

Non of the Toyota head units have an auxiliary input but you can buy an adapter plate to take any DIN E radio CD with aux input and adapter leads to make fitting easy.

Cheers

Thanks very much for your answer. I previously spoke to the Toyota parts advertsier on this site and was informed that with the radio/cassette unit it is not possible to connect an Ipod. I have yet to find anyone with ACTUAL experience of Ipod installation into a 2002 Rav4 with the radio/cassete unit or what their alternative was and how it works.

I'm still thinking that an aftermarket unit would be the way to go, but my daughter really likes the all-Toyota dash look.

Regards

You can always watch out for a later version of the the integrated radio. They pop up quite a lot on eBay. They do have the CD autochanger input and then you can add the Ipod interface.
