Wrong Fuel Economy/mpg Reading

Hi there - hope someone can help with this

I have an '03 Avensis T3-S 1.8 with about 88k on the clock.

I think it is showing the wrong fuel economy on the onboard computer. It reads about 43mpg, when my calculations are roughly between 32mpg (if you use US gallons) and 39mpg (if you use imperial gallons)

Or put another way, for about 50litres of unleaded, I can do about 430 miles.

So is something faulty? Or is there anyway I can reset the computer and get it to read correctly? Or are my calculations wrong?!?

Yours confused and needing help!

Yes

you can take out the ECU fuse,

or disconnect main batt negative for 15 mins

btw the onboard computer is not 100% accurate

Ok - thanks for that

Will I need a code for my CD/radio player - have had to do it in the past on other cars

Cheers!

I would not bother to do it, if it says 43 and u get 39 on the calculator then leave it as is, doubt

you will get any better readings than that. Treat it as a guide. It will reset after each fill-up anyway and then give

you an expected 'range'. Not usre how it calc's the range itself, maybe based on average consumption over a certain time/milage.

Yeah - saw that it reset after every fill up, but was wondering (hoping?) that there was a manual override.

Oh well - I'll just stick with doing my own calculations then

Cheers!
