hi vince, thanks for that, will try that to save buying 1 at £230,but i have some more queries, yesterday i went through some deep water {floods around here} .you know the normal clunks you get when you change into drive or reverse,on my surf it used to be quite loud and quite a lunge, but since the water it is almost gone and the brakes seem to be more effective, does this mean i have got water in somewhere it should not be,or is it a simple case that the water has loosened something up and made it work properly.

also is there any breather pipes on the auto gearbox and diffs that i should snorkel up so water cant get in ?

hope you can help, thanks steve. i've put in a picture of me going through a ford last week. our floods are a little deeper than this.

There are breathers on both diffs that you can unscrew and fit screw-in air hose adapters, and then run the hose up to the engine bay. Most people cable tie the ends to the bulkhead near the wiper motor.

Re: your gearbox, there is a breather on it, but is near on impossible to get at as it's between the transmission and the floor, so people don't bother, just change the transmission fluid more often, especially if the truck is spending a lot of the time up to the bumpers in water.

As for the clunking you're experiencing when shifting into gear, the idle speed of the engine could be too high, also check the condition of your transmission fluid. It should be a blood red colour on the dipstick, not brown or burnt smelling. You check the level with the engine running and in 'P' or 'N'

Re: the better brakes, the rear drums may have had dried mud in them (not unusual) and the water may have loosend it and flushed it out.
