Hello, I have recently found myself without a car, and after doing some internet research on "reliable cars" and also my experience of hiring a Yaris on holiday 3 years ago, I have decided to purchase a Yaris.....could I have some recommendations please as to what year and model I should look out for with my budget of £2000 - £2500 max?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you are after a nice spec car, something with nice alloys etc. You could possibly get a 2000 model SR. Try making an offer for cash on a private sale if you find a clean low miler B)

Not that i am biased but the SR is a nice car :D

Agree with the above mate, lovely car. The spec of the SR is great and you pick them up now definitely for the cash you've got available. 1.3 is a pokey little engine as well, but also very economical!

Thanks for advice, is the 1.3 similar on MPG, Insurance and tax band as a 1.0 litre Yaris?

Think the 1l is £115 a year tax, 1.3 (in auto) is £ 140 I think, manual might still be lower though! (Emmissions)

The CDX model has a nice lot of extras, inc alloys, cd and aircon, if you can find one for the money. Beware the early auto's as they were not conventional gearboxes but like a scooter type set up. (You prob want gears anyway).

Steer clear of the MMT gearboxes - more trouble than they're worth.

1.3 is in Tax band C or £115/year. I know cuz Ive got a 1.3.

My GLS came packed to the rafters but then it is a top spec P1. alloys were aftermarket not original - but it still had some. My 2001/51 reg cost me £5,300 6 months ago and I still don't know if this was a good deal...

Thanks again for advice, £5300 is way too much for me, defo budget is £2500 max.....going by this I guess I am looking for a 1.0 ltr year 2000 or if lucky 2001.

I am only looking for a manual gearbox....I read somewhere that Yaris's made after 2001 were made in France and quality was poor...is this right?

That was a very bad price in my opinion, of course it is just my opinion.

It is given in the serial number where it was made.

The best were Japenese variants. all sr's were jap i think  i am biased, lots of peeps running french ones with good reliability.

Best to go for the 1.3 in my opinion, bit of an all rounder SR and T sport are japanese but dont think you will be able to pick one up for your price range

If i find one ill leave a message here!

Good luck!

agreed I looked around for ages for my SR and paid £3500 with 46000 on the clock and in really good nick, you might find a high miler for the money you have but you will be looking for a long time.
