Tyres

Had to change a tyre at work today thanks to putting a screw through it!

However, good job the screw went through as what i took off can only be described as a racing slick!!

Checked the other tyres, fronts are ok for tread but the spare and other rear are quite low.

So was just wondering, what's everybody got on theirs?

Recommendations?

And how much are they likely to set me back??

:(

i have Bridgestone potenza SO3's in 205/50/16. not cheap at £105 a corner but well worth it. been using them for a few years now, really good grip, stiff sidewall improves the handling - you notice straight away, and they last - i will check what the milage was when i changed the fronts, i think i've done 15k with tread still left

Bridgestone Turanza ER300s, 195/55/16. 72 squid each, but nothing to write home about in the handling dept. I go through tread on the front outside edges pretty quick, but mostly from driving like an idiot.

I've had Goodyear Eagle F1s all round since December, really cant fault them, superb grip in wet and dry conditions. Highly recommended :D Cost me around £350 from blackcircles.com

on the subject of tyres, just checked my pressures lol they where all different pressures, put them all up to 34 psi :)

also my back two tyres are michelin and my front two are Bridgestone and dunlop.

why are they all different ? anything to be worried about ?

Ideally you want the same tyre and tread level accross an axle.

The tyres with the most tread should also be on the back.

What is your spare? If you can make up 2 pairs then it's better than having different tyres on the front.

lol @ tyre insurence :) so do u pay monthly for this tyre insurence or is it included with your car insurence ? and £125 is a fair bit for 1 tyre.

It's a separate policy through for the tyres through Inchcape (Dealer).

They'll cover the cost of up to 5 tyres to £125 each.

Think they'll probably just do like for like and not let me choose though.

I'll let you know after i've spoken to them.

I'm also covered for "malicous damage" so if anybody wants to slash the remaining tyres..... ;)

A quick Newbie question I hope.

Kwik-Fit let you choose between 2 sizes of tyre,

205/55/16

195/55/16

The 205's are a fair bit cheaper, but why the choice? and it had better not be

because of front and rear as fairly sure I have the same on all 4 corners

of my 2005 T-Sport

The standard tyres are 195/55/16, same size on each corner.

avoid 205/55/16 as these have a larger diameter and will effect your speedo accuracy.

Either go with the standard 195/55/16 or go for some 205/50/16

I have the goodyear eagle F1 205/50/16.

Thanks for that although confused by what the guys on here say about the diameter being bigger with a

205 tyre as that is the width.

so with 205/50/16 your diameter is probably smaller as the profile is lower and I would suggest that

would therefore increase the speedo reading.

Anyhow, I don't know how speedos work so I'm just guessing, plus I use my Sat Nav as a more accurate speedo if

I'm 'testing'

Good choice on the Goodyear Eagles though as not only a good tyre, I think they look nice too!

kwik - fit usually more expensive then everywhere else - so shop about a bit. the 195 is more than the 205 as the 205 is more common size. i got 205/50/16 on mine and no problems. the tyre size change put the speedo out less than 1%.

I've got Nexen N2000s on the front wheels of my Golf, I hadn't heard much about Nexen but the tyre fitter has them on his Jag & my dad has them on his BMW & they both recommended them so I took their word & have been happy with the grip

Ended up getting a set of Toyo T1R's.

Much better than the Bridgestone/Michelin combo that was on the car!!

Managed to tweak my claim for the one tyre with the screw in it to cover the cost of fitting the three others!!
