Picked Up T Sport Today But Got Squeaky Clutch

Hi,

Well i've picked up my cts today and driven it a bit today. I resisted temptation for a while but had to try lift. I noticed tho when I was driving the car and accelerating the clutch was making a squeaking noise and was getting very irritating.

It doesnt really do it when i drive gently but if im changing gear quickly it makes a squeak. Is there a quick fix or shall i take it back to the dealer and ask them to look at it.

Cheers

Dave

the squeek is the clutch master cylinder - there is a upgraded part availlable. had mine changed through warranty. Hows the clutch and gearchange?

The gear change seems ok but a bit strange but im putting that down to it being a different car, im going to try and monitor it over the weekend. its just when u are changing gear when the car is accelerating quite hard and it is so annoying. Think i will take it back and say it doesnt feel right.

does it go into reverse smoothly and first time? how you enjoying lift? the lil niggles do take alot of the enjoyment away but when you get them sorted its a nice car.

My clutch pedal is also squeaking from time to time. It's sorts it self out after I pump the pedal for a while. Mine doesn't make the noise when accelerating, and gear selecting is perfect. The sound seems to come from inside the drivers cabin.

Could this be the master cylinder?

What does it mean if it grinds when going into reverse? I have to be really soft and slow with mine for it not to grind - plus I have squeaks from the pedal, I had assumed this was seperate though?

i had the same problem when i got my ts - took it back to the dealers(RRG Bolton) they sorted it saying it was something to do with nylon bushes in the linkage. hope this helps.

when i have just started my car and i put it straight into reverse , when they is slightly low revs as i select reverse i sometimes get a little grind.

i usualy leave car to settle a few seconds once being turned on before selecting reverse and i dont get the grind. also i dont get the squeek when pressing clutch and hopefully i wont :)

If you have warranty, get it back to the garage for them to fix.

If not............

There are 2 places it can squeak. Sit with the car stationary and press the clutch, you might even get both squeaks.

Inside the cabin:

It will be coming from the clutch pedal. Remove the carpet type cover thing above the pedals. 1 screw near the ashtray and one near the diagnostic port.

Then get your head in the footwell and look at the clutch pedal assembly. You need to lubricate whichever bit is squeaking. It is likely to be the clevis pin or the pedal springs.

The clevis pin is the rod that the pedal pushed through the bulkhead (and to the master cylinder). If you use something like white lithium spray grease with a straw on the nozzle of the can you should be able to get some grease on the pin. Make sure you have some kitchen towel handy though 'cause it can get a bit messy.

You can also lubricate the other parts of the pedal mechanism while you're there.

The other place it can squeak is the pivot arm in the engine bay. As you face the back of the car, look down the front right hand side of the engine. You will see a rubber boot just between the radiator and engine. Pull back the rubber boot and fill it with the same grease. It can help if you have someone to press the clutch pedal while you're looking in the engine, you should be able to see where the squeak is coming from.

Thanks for the advice i think it will be easier for me to take it back to the garage as i have warranty as it seems to be the pedal or the linkage making a noise from what people have said.

Must say i really like the car. I have a celica vvti which im trying to sell and that was a nice handling car but the corolla is just as good and of course lift is a bonus.

the master cylinder squeeking is a know fault - upgrade availabe. the master cylinder is right in front of you - one dealer was convinced it was the pivot on the clutch pedal and kept putting wd40 and trying various greases. i told him if it was meant to be greased it would have grease on it - then they said toyota sent a special greases and this would sort it - got fed up and went to different mr t who showed me on the screen.... squeeking noise when clutch pressed - faulty master cylinder.

upgraded linkages available - hence why i asked about difficulty engaging gears. had mine done - makes a big difference

the squeek is the master cylinder - dont go spraying stuff on the clips around the clutch pedal...... it wont sort the problem. if they are a good dealer they will know as soon as you tell them - common faults and there listed on toyotas system. had no probs (when i changed dealers)getting shift cables ,master cylinder and clutch replaced for upgraded parts. i hope you dont spend 10 moons like i did trying to get to the bottom of these lil nigggles
