im wanting to replace the stereo unit in my gen 7 and replace it with something more fancier and nicer looking,

now due to the size of the stereo im not keen on having a stereo with 3 or something expansions to hide the space. so is there any headsets designed for the celica or something that would fit;.

i also see people with what looks like 2 head units one on top of each other. can anyone shed any light on this ?

Easiest option is to get a facia to cover the excess space.... or get a double din HU.. which is basically the same size as the standard hu (with the exceptions of the sides, where a bracket would be need)

To fit two hu you would need to split the loom.. which tbh unless you have a real reason to do (as opposed to doing it to fill the center console) then it is not worth doing.

What you've probably seen is a Graphic EQ, or more likely, a seperate CD Player unit to the tape / radio unit that link together (common on the previous shape golf, and I've recently seen on a Celica!). If you're buying after-market, you'll really struggle to get seperate units that play from different sources AND work together.

Best way forwards, as said, is either a single din stereo (2.5"-ish high) along with an adaptor to fill in the remaining space, or a double din stereo (5"-ish), and some side brakets to fill the smaller gap thats left. The adaptors will range from £10 to £30, depending on what you get, you'll also need a converter cable called an ISO Adaptor (cable with a plug on each end to make your Toyota Car compatible with a different stereo manufacturer's device, ie Toyota to Pioneer, Toyota to Alpine, etc) that comes in around £10 - £15, and you'll need a stereo to go on the end of it all - Anywhere from £20 to £1200+ depending on what you want. Usually £150 - £200 will get you a pretty good music player, and £400 - £500 will get you a lovely Double Din touch screen music and DVD player.

Good luck with the hunt, any questions, you know where we are! :)

Hi,

If you are after double din units there is a list here at caraudiodirect

I've just ordered the JVC AVX800 one.

Note if you go for double din you will need the side fillers, read the bottom of my thread here

Cheers.
