Knocking Sound When Turning

Hello to all Rav4 owners !! I'm new on the forum , just registered yesterday but have been reading for ages!!

Could anyone please help me out , whenever I turn the steering I get knocking noises coming from my front left wheel. I had a look in the Chilton's rav4 manual and they mention the CV joint. The thing it's knocking quite hard now and I have the car booked in tomorrow (Sat) , can anyone please give advice on prices to expect if the joint needs changing , also what time should it take them to install it , Just don't want to be ripped off on Labour charges.

I have a 1994 RAV4 GX AUTO.

Any help would be apreciated.

Certainly sounds like the CV driveshaft joint. Its easily tested from the play in the joint, and normally more evident on full lock. Other thing which i found is more normal is the steering knuckle joint - just like wots on most cars. The latter would show up knocking pretty much all the time. from what little I know about the CV joint - cos I've never changed one on my RAV - its still running with the originals after 167,000 miles - its a fairly straightforward task which any garage can check/do. Prices ? Dunno but shouldn't be too much. You might get stuck having to buy from Toyota in which case give Kingo - Parts-King a PM.

Just had it looked at yesterday, turns out the spring had broken on top!!

NOT UNCOMMON!

There was a recall on early RAVs for the spring - I forgot about that!! Mine was too early for the spring recall but if you go into a Toyota dealer, they can tell you whether your model was affected. Or PM Parts-King on this forum.

Maybe too late, but I do have used bits which go at the bottom and top of that spring - I'd bought them thinking they needed changed but the originals were ok - I changed them anyway. Yours may be alright despite the spring break...I think Toyota paid for the springs to be changed
