Malfunction Light

I have a 2004 Avensis T3S D4D

The malfunction light came on a few days ago. I took it to a local garage (not Toyota dealer) who put it on their simple good for all cars diagnostic machine and said it indicated a problem with glowplugs. I am a bit wary of this diagnosis as the car has started normally in the mornings even when iced up. My nearest Toyota dealer is a 60 mile round trip. Should I trust this diagnosis and have the glow plugs changed or could it be a symptom of something else. Can anyone give advice?

Thanks

I had a TRC and VSC light as well as the engine check light. I took it to toyota who said I needed glowplugs and a software update.

After clearing the code the light never come on again (that was 2 or 3 months ago now)

I've bought an OBD2 reader for £15 so I can read the codes myself now.

If you trust the garage get it done there but genuine toyota glowplugs are recommended, as aftermarket ones can flag a glowplug fault intermittently (according to my toyota dealer) ;)
