Any Regrets?

Hi all,

I was wondering if you have any regrets with your TS purchase? I've been reading a lot of reviews on the net (evo, top gear, parkers etc.) and theres not many reviews that actually rate the car? But then they always seem to compare to golf gti's which seems to be the benchmark.

Some issue they talk about, high revs is a chore, not too good around corners, no power before 6200 revs.

So i was wondering if any of the above actually causes frustration/problems with you guys?

And

Would you HONESTLY buy the same car again if you could go back or go for another like Golf GTI, Seat Leon etc.

I know most of the responses will be bias, but it'll really help me out.

Cheers

I would say no to having another of these cars, far too much to go in to but it's been a headache consistently since the end of the first week of owning it.

When the days are longer I'll be looking for an older car again.

On the upside though, I'm sure there will be lots of folk here to say that their car is a good one and they will get another next time...

Cheers.

i would have saved a little more and gone for the compresor or type r, golf and leon wouldnt stand a chance.

golf and leon would have cost me more on insurence and petrol etc so i wouldnt have choosen different :) plus im not sure if they is a big difference performance wise to persuade me to pay the extra for one of the others. if i had the extra cash for insurnce petrol etc i would have choosen the CTR or compressor.

at the end of the day if you are torn between a few good cars , test drive them, whichever one u like best go with that one :)

oh about the high revs debate, once u have hit 6200rpm in first u just about stay there through the gears so i dont know why ppl keep slating this, unless your doing 20mph in 3rd/4th/5th and put your foot down then in that case your waiting for the lift to kick in but how often does that happen ?

I love my TS not really or at all had any (or many) problems with it but hey all cars have their problems & defo not regretted buying it! i wouldnt buy another one if i to change cars now or in my case few yrs time on basis that i wouldnt buy the same car again even though i thought about it before, it be like not changing cars when u have if u know what i mean, my nxt car i want a Integra DC5! however the TS compressor maybe jst maybe but probably not....

So sum up i love the TS but imo the whole idea of when comes to changing cars is to have something different nxt time round

Cheers for that guys, :D

Its really helpful to read other peoples experiences and thoughts.

I'll do a few test drives and see how it goes.

borodaz,

I always thought that when you change gears (e.g 1st to 2nd) the revs shoot back down and then you'll have wait for the lift to kick in again? I take it thats not the case then?

Thanks again.

i can keep it in lift 1st to 2nd and not far off in 3rd gear change depends how fast you want to go lol :) but if you dont hit the lift in 2nd from first i dont think it is far off, same with 2nd to 3rd, sure others on here will back this up (unless its just me lol i always wondered why i was averaging 24mpg) :)

you will be in lift before you know it if your foot is flat down once you have changed from 1st at 8000rpm, if you keep it in lift you are flying before you know it your hitting a ton+

It's very easy to stay in lift from 1st to 4th. Never tried to keep it in 5th as I'm going fast enough :D

lol ! lift is great :) think the t sport will be pushing 90 odd when changing to 4th so hitting lift in 4th and your well on your way nevermind 5th lol :) dont think 6th pulls with lift as good as the other gears.

would love to go round a track in my t sport, we t sporter's should do a track day , would be fun :)

Its a good car in my opinion. Definitely better than going for a golf gti which I also considered.

Its nice and discreet being the phase 1 model and not common like the golf gti's and CTR's.

Lift is excellent and when you push it hard it brings a smile to my face everytime!

No regrets at all... Coming to 3 years in my ownership and had zero mechanical problem. Slight niggles are starting to develope but nothing that i will get stressed about.

I honestly don't think i could get another car that is as reliable, frugal (when driven at moderate speed), quick and discrete for the buck. I happen to hate things like Auto Wipers/Auto Headlights and such un-necessary rubbish in a car, and my TS has all the kit that matters (i.e climate control/alarm...). i simply cannot complaint.

I recommend the TS (providing it's a good low milage sample) everytime.

Iv had few probs with mine, but i still really like the car, although i dont think they are as well built as there reputation suggests. In two minds if id buy one again, ill see how long its goes without developing another prob. Make sure you check it out properly before you buy, that every thing works as it should

are you talking the new golf gti? tbh if you are the t sport isnt in the same league as the golf. if your on about the last gti .....thats a different story. the new gti is a bit common round here but they are stunning - and thats coming from a loyal toyota fan - the new gti is the only car i would prefer over my t sport. the cornering isnt the best and they arent built as well as toyotas of old - but i suppose they dont have too now? if you got under 10k you wont find a better car - if you got 20k for a golf..........

Condolences...

Tell you what, i wouldn't mind giving my TS a bash round some of the roads on the "ring of Kerry"... I hired a normal 1.6 E12 Corolla and did the ring a few years back, BLIMEY. Some really excellent roads.

We went to somewhere called Dingle i think and we drove around at some un-sensible speeds round there at night, it was up and down hills across what could only be described as something of a "special rally stage" roads. It was major fun but i can totally relate to what you say it being a hazzard.

Only thing i don't like about the T-sport is the wonky dash bit above the stereo, seems to have got really bad recently, every single tiny bump in the road and i can hear the plastic croaking and groaning. Will be stripping that soon to fix everyting properly once i get my rear screens fitted.

Also gearbox changes have seemed to have got very clunky recently. maybe the clutch is going or my left leg is getting lazy.

Don't like the way the T-sport sits so high even with the sports springs.

General build quality is good, apart from the windows seems to rattle when slightly open and ofcourse the dash situation.

Would i buy another?, hmmm probably not a pre-faclift TS, maybe a facelift or a compressor if i'm feeling silly, otherwise i think i'll go back to german, unless i get very silly in which case a nissan skyline gt-r 2008.

Cheers

Armz.

I have never had any problems with the fittings in the dash area... This seems like a lottery to me.

Gear change in general is fine when driven gently, but i would by no means say that it is adequate when driven hard. Think ratio is a little short as well for a 6-speeder.

Yeah, i will go German next myself to be honest. Japanese has lost their identity I feel as they are ploking great big engines into their cars and forgot that they are all about small high revving fun houses.

If i want a big engine, i wouldn't look further than a German car.
