It was dingle i was in too. nice lttle town, some great restraunts there. Had my 1.4 E12 when i was there. there is a rally around kerry in the irish rally stages. think loeb did it last year in prep for the wrc here recently.

Well there you go... Those roads are worthy of a rally.

We didn't eat in Dingle... We stayed in Kilarney and had some brill seafoods there. It was a good trip all round.

Only thing i don't like about the T-sport is the wonky dash bit above the stereo, seems to have got really bad recently, every single tiny bump in the road and i can hear the plastic croaking and groaning. Will be stripping that soon to fix everyting properly once i get my rear screens fitted.

Also gearbox changes have seemed to have got very clunky recently. maybe the clutch is going or my left leg is getting lazy.

Don't like the way the T-sport sits so high even with the sports springs.

General build quality is good, apart from the windows seems to rattle when slightly open and ofcourse the dash situation.

Would i buy another?, hmmm probably not a pre-faclift TS, maybe a facelift or a compressor if i'm feeling silly, otherwise i think i'll go back to german, unless i get very silly in which case a nissan skyline gt-r 2008.

Cheers

Armz.

I have never had any problems with the fittings in the dash area... This seems like a lottery to me.

Gear change in general is fine when driven gently, but i would by no means say that it is adequate when driven hard. Think ratio is a little short as well for a 6-speeder.

Yeah, i will go German next myself to be honest. Japanese has lost their identity I feel as they are ploking great big engines into their cars and forgot that they are all about small high revving fun houses.

If i want a big engine, i wouldn't look further than a German car.

Yeah I think the german cars are probably built a little better now, and those audi's never rust = apparently! :D

It seems like the majority of issues mentioned here seem to be little niggles and nothing major but when you pay so much for a car you don't want to pay for things that should have been fixed in the 1st place.

Armz,

You always seem to be working on your car? lol,

since i got my tsport it seems to be one thing after another but that is me . if i could turn back time and find some thing german with the same sort of power out put as the cts i wouldnt think twice but in my eyes every thing german you see ten to the dozen and the cts is that little bit less seen . but you cant fault the german build as i have a golf as well and it has never borke down on me and has done nearly 200k since 1989 and runs like the dat it was made.

Lol, it seems that way that i'm working on it alot, i guess i'm making up for lost time, lol, i owned it for 1 year before i made any mods to the outside. Now i've been bitten by the bug i just can't stop, i've even contemplated buying a smaller car to drive everyday and leave the t-sport at home. lol! Although i do have 2 other mercs to drive. The CTS has become my toy. :)

I dont regret buying mine at all, ive had it for 3 months and done over 4,000 miles and its been 100% reliable. If i could go back I would have spent a little more and bought a facelift T-Sport. Must admit though, i have heard reports of the VVTLi engine being soft and using 1 litre of oil per 600 miles and its made me slightly paranoid....

I'd like to go for a MK5 Golf GTi next year.... Candy White 3dr with 18inch GTi wheels and DSG :D

im on my 2nd cts.

my first was an 03 plate thunder grey with 12k miles cost 11 grand from main dealer, the clutch was replaced twice and gearbox bearings,a new ecu ,replaced aux belt tensioner, new window motor, rear discs and pads... in the first year of having it. the gearbox was never right and i sold it at 28k miles . :!Removed!:

iv now got a 52 plate in black, it had 64k miles and cost £5400 private. just ticked over to 70k miles and iv not had one problem or niggle. the clutch and the gear box are perfect too. i swear this ones quicker.

If i could go back maybe wait bit longer for a facelift TS too oh well not likely to lose sleep over it,lol i think the TS is a car i should of bought few yrs ago instead of the mazda 323f 2.0 sport since insurance is not that much difference & fuel economy is more less same but performance is soooo much better by long way! dunno why i didnt think of it back then yet again didnt regret any my cars really looking back ! i do like Golfs alot all of them & lot of german cars but want next car to be japanese before i buy a german car & as said earlier a 2004+ ITR DC5 very determined to get one !

how come you had your ECU changed? changed gearbox oil today to some half decent valvoline and its made a lot of difference to the gearchange - mine aint bad but the gearchange isnt right......... i seem to be the opposite to others - mines a bit awkward when going slow but really smooth when revving her

yeah all done under warranty... was a pain getting it sorted.. it was as if they did not know how to cure the problem with the clutch at the time. i never paid a penny just the inconvienience of it all but they never fixed it.

the previous owner of my current cts had no work done in the year he owned it. he had the 60k mile major service done and toyota found no faults prior to my purchase. i cant smell fish when i reverse, it does not rattle when engine breaking and gear change is really slick even at high revs. somethings got to be different? maybe the first owner had it sorted.. im not sure.

had the ecu changed because the lights kept dimming and the alarm ecu was replaced at same time as the alarm was faulty. ;)

on the subject of next cars i would have to say myn will be either the t sport compressor or the evo 8 fq 320 depending on spare money each month for petrol and insurence etc. golf gti is tempting but i see at least 4 every day and i want to be different and also faster :)

Well I regret selling mine! :( I don't think there's a better value hot hatch out there... no matter what car you get, you'll want to do something to it and by buying a CTS you're getting something very different from everyone else, which with less than £1000 you can make better than a CTR/GTi. The amount of people who used to stop me in London/Middlesex asking me about my CTS was unbelievable, especially as it was just a Corolla at the end of the day, but it was rare and looked the part...

I'm "downgrading" for a while again for work reasons and am hopefully going back to a facelift CTS for all the reasons above... oh and the insurance difference between the CTS and CTR is HUGE!!! :o

haha yeh them are the reasons i got one too :) a mate of myn was passing my house yesterday and was saying he is getting a new car didnt know what to get. he started quizing me about myn and he said hes never seen one or heard about it before so i filled him in on the stats. was telling him how its very similar to the CTR but cheaper insurence etc etc and i got it as its so rare and is so fast for a 1.8. took him out in it and he thaught it was fast and nice inside etc i told him to get one and he replied with "but then you wont be the only one with CTS in this area" i just laughed and said we will get a craze going , everyone will want one :)

I have a corolla non t sport at the moment and from reading and having driven a compressor of the corolla i would pick it up, Type rs are common if you have the money and if you can drive you can own another car. you cant race at all on a road so you cant judge but to have something like lift in a car and the whine of that supercharger thats something else. Vtech is a good comparison however driving seats and golfs is great seat however doesnt appeal to me as a car with much class toyota is a solid namealong with honda and volkswagen. But golfs are so common regardless of what they are we know there quick but its the same old. If you work on your tsport with major tuning jobs youll have it quicker than a type r etc its all about what you are going to spend. Money is the issue but the t sport corollas are sound cars but the compressors they are worth it defo.

I've always been a bit fussy with cars (usually changing them after 6 months or a year) - I've had my CTS for over three years now and I still really like it.

Apart from petrol, tax, MOTs/servicing, etc. it's not cost me anything - no major problems with it (squeaky clutch sometimes, gearbox takes a bit of getting used to, etc. but most CTS owners say the same thing - just minor niggles I suppose). That's really impressive for three years!

I've owned an Seat Leon Cupra before (just the standard 1.8T not the R) which always felt like it was about to fall apart. My dad has gone through several Golfs over the years which always seem disappointing. I don't think there's much that comes close to the CTS in terms of value for money and that still has a bit of poke about it - and I can still scare the :censor: out of my girlfriend with the lift!

One big problem I've found with the CTS though - Toyota's lack of marketing - which basically means hardly anyone knows what the CTS is (so when you come to sell it most people just see the "Corolla" Badge first and ignore the "T") - this is something that Honda definitely got right with the CTR!

I was thinking of trading my CTS in last year (for a Hyundai Coupe 2.7V6) but eventually talked myself out of it due to the dealer not budging on the p/x and finding out that the Coupe had less power than the CTS and a much higher fuel consumption :!Removed!:

If only Toyota made decent performance cars still...
