I have done a few modifcations to my compressor ie induction kit, stainless steel custom exhausts and tints..

just wondering

-firstly will toyota still service my car??

-and will it affect my warranty?

-have you guys got experienced any complications with warranty?

cheers

cant say ive experienced any of the above

-surely they shall still service your car with just induction kit, exhaust and tints. maybe not if you have gone to work on the engine adding turbos etc.

-if the mods are items from toyota then i dont think it affects warranty

sure other members will have better info than me :)

yes, like any garage they will service just about anything

-and will it affect my warranty?

Tints no, exhaust obviously won't be covered but shouldn't affect your warranty

Induction Kit - That's the tricky bit, because it changes the way air flows into the engine, Toyota could, and probably would use this to get out of any warranty work on the engine.

Best thing to do is probably PM Parts King and get the dealer view on things.

Tints would effect the warranty if you were to try and claim something related to the windows.

But remember, the warranty is with Toyota, not the dealer. So the dealer is more likely to just claim the stuff under warranty because it is highly unlikely that Toyota will want to view the car and see if it is modded.

Dealer tells you no, can't do it under warranty - dealer gets no money from Toyota, might get some off you.

Dealer does it anyway even though it's possible the problem was caused by the mod - dealer gets money off Toyota and keeps you happy.

Why not? It is still a Toyota, I don't think you would have any issues here

and will it affect my warranty?

Quite possibly. It would not be reasonable to expect Toyota to pay for any possible engine damage caused by a different suppliers goods being fitted. Warranty would only be affected if the non-standard part went faulty, in other words, if the engine went bang as a result of fitting an induction kit, then you would probably not be covered. If the wiper motor failed as a result of fitting an induction kit, it would be difficult for your claim to be rejected, as fitting an induction kit, is not likely to affect your wipers.

Warranty is quite simple really. If an item goes faulty as a result of poor workmanship or goods, then it is usually covered, subject to wear and tear, mileage and time limits, and some items which fall outside of this (Tyres for example as they are covered by the tyre manufacturer) Be honest with your dealer, he is much more likely to be receptive to somebody who tells him what has been modified, he will probably be interested to see your modifications, and will be more likely to help you should it all go horribly wrong

I had an aftermarket induction kit on and the engine light kept coming on.

I took it to the dealer who pointed out an air leak on the kit.

He did not charge me or make a fuss.

I asked if exhausts would invalidate my warranty.

The dealer said that if it was cosmetic and didn't produce more power then it would be ok. He did point out however that the system itself would not be covered by warranty

I took my car in for a service and had a list of issues for warranty so I took the induction kit off as there was an engine issue. However, the standard airbox I fitted contained a TOMS panel filter.

When I pointed this out, the dealer said fine, we just will not charge you for a replacement element in the service.

So, overall the dealers are ok with the mods as long as they are not extreme.

The best thing is to discuss it with the dealer before you do the mod.

Keep the guys name for future reference and you should be ok

They will still service your car whatever you do to it.

They might not do stuff under warranty though.

I work in the warranty department for a big manufacturer and if we had an engine/exhaust issue with a car and found out it had a modified exhaust we would reject the claim.

Then it would be up to the dealer to pay for the claim, or charge the customer.

It is, however, very unlikely we would find out a car had been modified unless the dealer told us (which is unlikely as we would then reject the claim, leaving either them or the customer out of pocket and unhappy) or we sent someone to inspect the car.

It's your car, you can do what you like to it, HOWEVER, should something go wrong with it, and IF, the manufacturer found out you had modified something that had caused the item to go wrong, then they would reject the claim. Imagine chipping your xbox or similar (everybody does it dont they?) , and the next day you were unable to play games on it, would you expect the manufacturer to pay for repairing it when you sent it back? Not likely. Of course it depends on how your dealer views it, they are the manufacturers representitive, and would not want to risk having the claim rejected and risk not being paid for fixing your car. Be honest and explain what you have done, a panel filter for instance may not blow your engine up but a supercharger might!

Exactly, P-K

As I said, if in doubt chat to the dealer.

Mine is fine and not too bothered as they will cover themselves but you could get an @rsey dealer who is a 'jobsworth'

wel im confused i have alloys on my car and i have kept the original alloys aswell and my headunit however i changed my exhaust and i went into toyota the other day for parts to buy a new Battery as mine was faulty kept killing out and the guy was an utter ***** he kept going on how i had voided my warranty and i couldnt understand why....alloy wheels are ok if i take it in its going in with the original.....backbox...stupid really and thats about it aparts from my sound system everything else is original.

And can you beleive this i havehad my car go into insurance two times with these things on not declared and they havent said a thing!

with the alloys and the exhaust.

Now however i have informed the insurance but the guy in toyota really p*ss*d me off as the other guy hu came out to get the chassis number of the car didnt say a thing he was pleasent the other one who showed me his own modified corolla a good while back made such a fuss about it and seemed like he was writing up something on his computer about my warranty being void logging it onto the system. Non the less however just be careful and be real nice to your dealer if you think of doing anything. Each dealer is different each sales person is different.

the same way i got lucky with insurance i lost on the other side its a hit and miss thing so probaby best to get it checked out.

The guy you saw sounds a bit of a t**t :o

As mentioned before, the only time they can void a warranty claim is if an aftermarket part has contributed to the failure.

It certainly does not void the whole car

If they did try it then Trading Standards would be very interested ;)
