just had new rad fitted 2 weeks ago and now the top hose has blown, why do you think this happened ?

Blown?

Has it just 'popped' off the radiator? or has it split?

The pressure in the system would easily push off a loose fitting hose. Never heard of a Toyota Hose splitting!

Some people prefer to replace the original Toyota Spring clips with Jubilee Clips. Personally I've never had a problem with the originals.

Was the car showing signs of overheating prior to the 'blow-out'? Even if it was I would suggest the radiator hasn'r been refitted correctly.

Was it an original radiator which was re-cored or was it a complete copy unit?

its split as far as i know, when i squeese it water sprays out, it,s never shown signs of overheating even when rad was leaking, its exactly the same rad as was taken off..

Must be due to age....... and/or a heavyhanded technician when the radiator was renewed..

did the car overheat when the original radiator went? could be headgasket if it did, pressure getting into system thus causing it to split

i replaced the rad yesterday on my carina, still guzzling water...only thing i can find is that theres steam coming from the top rad hose when hot but dosent leak while cold,so im going to replace that when i have 5 minutes and see if that will stop the water consumption...dont know if it helps but id replace the hose and then see what its like, cos the rad needs to be airtight.

Could be the water pump.

Loss from this is sometimes difficult to detect. There is a 'check-hole' on the pulley-wheel housing. This weeps and can really only be seen by getting undet the car.

When the water begins to flow from this hole you should see dampness on the engine block at the point where the dipstick goes in. Otherwise you will see white chalky/crusty deposits on the sump area from where the coolant has evaporated.

pulled the top hose off the rad, turned the clip around and replaced and hey presto!!! no more steam or boiling water all over the shop!!will be keeping an eye on the water levels for the next week or so just in case.
