Now Carry A Metre Of Scaffold Pole.....

Posting my gripe with tyre fitters here hopefully makes me feel better.....

Picture the scenario - puncture on a motorway. Not with any recovery outfit

so decided to change tyre in "safe lane"

Not a chance in hell of moving those nuts. Luckily. I'm not to far from home

so, being a rear wheel, decided to drive there.

Cutting a long story short, it took a length of scaffold pole slipped over the

removal tool to "unsnap" the nuts. Neadless to say, the tyre was buggered

after that drive. So, 60 quid out of pocket.

Would I like to meet the fitter involved - maybe its better if I didn't.

Anything I ought to do t  o prevent a re-occurence?

Peter

Get yourself a decent Breaker Bar and socket. This should ensure that next time you'll have no bother getting the nuts off.

Or just carry the pole with you in case of emergency !

put anti-seizing compound on studs. the so n so has done themup with the air wrench. only suppose to be 103nm which is reallt easy to undo. wouldnt mind you can get a torque limiting wobble bar purpose made for tightening wheel nuts with air tools. hope he hasnt stretched the threads

accutorq sockets can be dangerous though, if your compressor isnt up to the job, or is low on pressure when you do the bolt up, you can end up sending a car out with loose nuts, only real way to tighten a wheelnut properly is with a calibrated torque wrench
