Rav 4 No Power Above 3000rpm

Hi

New here, 2002 Rav4 D4D 61k miles. Problem is that it goes fine around the town punchy performance etc but once you get her on the open road it just seems to die above 3000 rpm as if it is getting starved of diesel. New fuel filter didnt solve problem and i swaped the MAF for a known good one but still no better. No engine management light comes on either.

Spoke to Toyota dealer and asked could he read into computer to see if there are any faults listed but he said if there is no light then no codes will be stored. Is that correct?

Does anyone know is there a pre filter besides the main filter??

Any other ideas as to what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem last December, power kept dying at 3000 rpm, it has cleared itself now and is running great again. The only thing i can think of is that when my wife gave me vouchers for 5 pence off diesel per litre at Tesco, i filled up a couple of times there. I have since filled up about 4 full tanks since at my usual garage (sainsburies as it happens) and it is now right as rain again? Hope this info is of help to you.

Twincaman...Can you give us a little more detail on the issues you have above 3000rpm..Does the RAV just die or put foot to floor and nothing happens but slowly builds up...

Has the Garage carried out any pressure testing on the High Pressure Fuel Pump... or checked the fuel lines for any leaks......

It sounds like the HP fuel pump to me as well. Parts-King can get you the elements and they are easy to fit but they are also expensive.

Hi

More detail, the airfilter has been changed along with the fuel filter. The car has plenty of shove until the revs go above 3000 in 3rd gear or above. It is as if she is not getting the fuel similar to how a blocked fuel filter performs, hence why i put a new filter on. I am going to blow back the fuel pipe from the tank, apparently there is a gauze in the tank that can become blocked.

Anyone had problems with blocked fuel supply line?

I will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Twincaman
