Locking Keys Inside Car!

Hello everyone, I’ve only recently join this forum! I’m liking the forum so far! Very informative

I have a question:

On my Yaris you can lock the doors without the keys by closing the door with the door handle up while the lock is down.

(I’m sure a lot of people already know this)

I've been doing this for about 2 years now and only managed to lock my keys in twice (which isn’t bad :P), I managed to do it again last night and fearing that this might happen again when I’m further away from home (I usually get someone to drive the spare key to me) like London or further up north it might cause problems getting someone to drive a 2/3 hour journey with the spare key.

Apart from training my self to not lock the car door using this method is there a way of disabling this feature? By modding or something? I was thinking of adding central locking but it will cost me around £200

I'm just seeing if there is a cheaper option

Any help appreciated!

Don't pull the handle up when you close the door?

IIRC opening the drivers door and trying to put the button down, the mechanism wont let you. Which means you'de be purposely locking your keys in...

Wow your the first person who i've seen thats not up north (by my definition of up north = further than london or birmingham :D)

Anyway, something a little more useful (but not alot)..... attach the car keys to your house keys, or spare set to your house keys but only the remote module if you think its a bit bulky. Ofc i have no idea if you can separate the remote locking from the actual key, in theory you can without much hassle. HTH (but probably not)

yes you can do it because i've been doing it for 2 years, you think i would go to the trouble of searching on google, registering to this forum and making some story up? and purposely locking my own keys in the car??

i am just wondering if there is a switch under the doors or something which i can do to disable this. My Yaris has no central locking.

The simple answer is NO, there is no switch or anything similar you can switch off etc. Train yourself to lock it with the key, its the easyest option

That's a matter of opinion

Don't lock your car with the key, you'll be making small scrapes around the door lock. Just put the key in your pocket before you lock the door with the button. And yes, two times are two too many.

I don't think it has a remote key, just an ordinary key isnt it? If it is a remote wireless key I think this thread has somehow come to a natural end.........Why would you lock the door and lift the handle if you had a remote key? Or am I missing the plot?

Who said anything about the remote central locking button. There are some handy buttons on the door :P

I never use my key to lock the Charade. It's simpler to just put the key in your pocket and then lock the car with the button and handle-method.

This is seriously one of the more comical threads I've seen in a while :D

To save power.....?

just make sure u take the keys out the car.

My brother used to do this with his (old) Escort. Usually have to find another Ford driver to borrow key from, then open it easily.

My advice to you is the same as I said to him.

Lock the effing door WITH the key, that way, you cannot lock your keys in! IT IS THE SIMPLEST THING TO DO AND THE HIGHT OF LAZINESS TO NOT BE BOTHERED TO DO!

My Mum used to be bad at locking her keys into her Metro, & once borrowed someone's key to get back in!

The newer Ford keys had a strange feature where they can lock any other Ford with the same type of lock.

My Uncle remembers that the staff at his job were warned to always use the right keys, as too many were locking the correct ones into their cars.

Yeah there is a way. Pull the door card off and dis-connect the rod that goes to the inside lock button. Then you`l HAVE to use the key to lock it from the outside!

OR splash out and get remote central locking installed, I personally could`nt live without it these days.
