Alarm Problem

Rav in Moscow
 Share

Recommended Posts

:( Hi, I am new to this forum as it is my Wife who has the Mark 1 '96 Rav, she (we) now have a problem of:

my wife parked the car no problem, locked it with remote, doors locked, lights flashed etc, etc.

Came back pressed the remote, lights flashed, doors opened, started the car---------ran for 10 to 15 seconds then cut out, after this refused to start. Locked the car using remote, opened the car started----ran for 10 to 15 seconds cut out.

I towed her home (slowly) had a look now immediate problems, as I believed the Petrol pump, checked, unfortunatly not this, checked all the sparks etc, no spark, OK checked the coil, blah, blah all working fine---at this stage over my head, so off to garage with car, mechanic states "Alarm" problem, and since the alarm has no markings, numbers or anything else, the poor mechanic is stuck, and we still have an immobilised Rav 4........................Ladies and Gents Please help, as my Wife is beside herslf without her Rav........and the earache I am getting is unreal!!!!!!

1996 3 door Rav 4 with non factory, but Toyota fitted alarm, as the Keyfob does have Toyota stamped on it.

I have read a few forums regarding this and the responses are so far apart it's scary......any ideas or clues would be extremely helpful (if only for my ears!!!!!)

A Cold, and not work Rav in Moscow :crybaby:

Welcome to this forum....its cold here in Scotland but maybe not as cold as where you are!!

The alarm - the RAV came with the alarm fitted as standard. I have just posted a description under the topic "Alarm" of the system. It uses a 2 button fob with a slide switch to enable/disable the movement sensors. If this is the alarm fob you have, despite the beeps etc, maybe the fob has gone out of synch with the alarm system?? The warning light will show if the alarm is activated.

If the vehicle has been locked with the fob, then the car must be opened using the fob...using the key to open it will not disarm the immobiliser.

I did have problems with the alarm when the Battery was almost flat/drained and it acted funny.

Can you say whether this matches the sort of system and fob that you have. It sounds as if you might have got a RAV with a different alarm system?

Thanks Bothwell, but the alarm fob only has 2 buttons, with no slide to enable/disable sensors, teardrop shaped (it's at times like this I wish I had taken a photo before putting in the garage!!). The alarm / locking was activated with the remote, and subsequently de-activated with the remote, the doors centrally lock / unlock fine with the remote, it just will not fire.

I shall have a look further at your posting under "Alarm". Incidently, I actually think for once it maybe warmer here than where you are------globing warming at it's finest!!!!
