Has anyone tried a K+N filter in their D4D? ive had one of Kingos little black boxes fitted to my 07 4.3 and am extremely pleased. so in order to try and get nearer you T180 guys i thought id fit aK+N this cost best part of £50 and ifelt if anything the car felt a tad slower and also had an annoying whistle from the air box. so i put the original denso back and alls well again! also i notice the new XTR has the chrome grill of the T180. could i fit just the chrome bit to my XT4? or would i need to buy the whole grill? many thanks :rolleyes:

Not sure about the chrome bits but kingo will advise.

If it is the whole grill then the front bumper has to come off as attached;

When you start adding things like K&N filters in, you are of course altering the airflow. Depending on the electronics, maybe they are getting confused by the change?? No doubt someone else with an oil burner will know better, but I'd imagine that the ecu or whatever might need taught to adapt to the change in airflow?? Sounds like it if it works better with the previous one. Increase the airflow and you'd need to have more oil going through to make up the right mix of oily air.

When you say black-box do we mean the power-chip that you can buy from Kingo?

Have had only one experience with K/n filters which was on my previous 4.1 Freesport.I firstly bought one and changed it for the factory one and did not notice alot of difference,after this I bought a K/N cold air intake which did make a marked difference especially with the TTE twin xhaust, OK for a time but got stalled of the noise from under the bonnet.

I personally would stick to the OMP as I don,t think they make all that much difference( an argument aired many times on R4W threads)

Have you had the power-chip in long enough to note what increase in MPG you have had, besides the increase in BHP ?

hi clare had my chip in since november,since it was fitted i'd say on average a good 2to 3 mpg, at first you tend to see what it will do and i opened it up on the way back from lindop and i'm a bit embarrassed to say I saw 122mph on the speedo my tom tom was showing 119mph' acceleration in the mid range is a lot better. the following day I took my wife and dog to N Wales and driving at the legal limit which i must add is more my norm.I managed 50 mpg over a distance of 115 miles. i filled up at queensferry on my way back, and poodled the last 30 miles of motorway as economicaly as i could and on arriving home i had an incredible 57.6 mpg.All these figures were on my trip computer so can't say how accurate they are. Having got all that out of my system i find the car a lot more relaxing to drive and with the extra torque I tend to drive in a higher gear. dare i say even pulling away from a standstill in 2nd gear which solves the poor 1st to 2nd change problem. MY car usually does very short journeys and neither my wife or i use it for work my last RAV 02 D4D only had 23000+ miles after 5 years.but my new one even on short journeys is still doing 40 to 45 mpg...hope this all helps and that i'm not becoming a bore. sure someone will tell me if i am...Thanks

Thanks local, my Dad and myself are contemplating buying one from Lindop for our T180 when they get them instock again. They seem too good to be true xtra power and a bit more MPG but I think we have been converted. Our biggest problem will be fittig it as we are a couple of no no,s when it comes to the actual fitting of such an item.

Kingos kits are the easiest I've ever come accross. If you lift the bonnet, that plastic cover just pulls off. You can then see the four injectors on top of the engine. You unplug each one, put the connection from the chip onto each injector and then re-plug the wires back onto the chip connector (so it is sandwiched inbetween). You clip the ECU box somewhere safe and then put the the power wires onto the positive and negative Battery terminals.

If you feel like having a go then you can pm me and I will talk you through it step by step.

Regards

Anchorman has summed it up brilliantly the box which is about the size of a 20 cig pkt is secured with cable ties inside the right wing near the Battery when you put the plastic engine cover back theres nothing to see I didnt find mine for 2 days. it took Lindop 40 mins to fit that and a pair of roof rails. If your still worried why not ask your local Mr T i asked mine and it turned out the salesman and the service manager both had them on their cars...and they were happy to fit mine.but as Queensferry is only 35 miles from me i went there,,,,

wot a waste of time. Ditch yer back doors and the weight loss will improve yer power:weight ratio better than a box of matches.

Or put a 300+bhp lump in if ye want power....

For sale - 1 MR2 Shell wi no engine and no wheels....guaranteed to make yer 5 door RAV look fast when passing it!! :lol:
