just seen a puff of smoke come out of the CPU fan vent

the laptop is still running

is it safe to continue using it?

PS there was a funny noise from the fan but it has gone now

First off, is the fan still definately spinning? Most computers will automatically switch off if the processor gets too hot as well. Personally, I'd leave it for a bit, let it cool down. Then start it up again make sure all the fans are still spinning and see how it goes.

Also, is it still under warrenty? If it is, give them a call, get it replaced.

I think its ok, its still running

will get the IT guys to look at it in the morning

nah the warrenty has finished, already replaced the fan, motherboard and the screen

all seven seas!

lol mine went well hot earlier, turned off and the fan went on mega speed for 40 mins and it wouldn't turn on

could have just been a bit of dust dis-lodged itself and blew out....happens sometimes....not on laptops though usually towers...
