this was a problem mainly with the avensis and celica, thought i had an issue with it but mine came down to the brand of oil even though i was using 5-30 semi synthetic . hadmine serviced and 2000 miles on hasnt used a drop

as previously said tho if there is a problem toyota do put it right thats 1 thing i can say in confidence

Something we should all look out for! Will check the oil this weekend :(

I couldnt find any other reference to VVTi in Google news... Strange.

Well it does say it is the VVTi unit and not the VVTLi ones, i think we should be fine?

I check my oil quite regularly and it seems ok, mine has done nearly 70k and it burns oil as much as it did the first day i had it. I am 1000 miles away from my service and it is around 3/4 full.

Mine has covered 5,000 miles and it is about 80% full.....in fairness it has seen lift once or twice lol.....have no idea what type of oil is in it though.....its on 44k....asked toyota customer services about oil consumption and they say they have extended the warranty to 7 years/120,000 miles.

What engine was it??? Did your car have a full toyota history??? Did it need new 1/2 an engine?

dont panic......... wasnt me t sport. if there turns out to be an issue with the 2zz-ge toyota usually puts things like that right. i dont agree with leaving semi for 10k and i know mechanics who agree......

Are the VVTLi not a completely different engine altogether, I am sure this has been raised in the past???

A document was posted on the t sport section which seamed to indicated that the 1zz-fe(1.8vvti) was the base engine for the 2zz-ge. Heres some quote's from it. "The 2ZZ-GE is a sporty 1.8 liter engine based on the 1ZZ-FE, which is currently being mass produced in Japan, USA, and Canada". "The 1ZZ-FE, base engine to the 2ZZ-GE, was designed with the following targets." The are plenty of difference between them even by reading the document, compression bore stroke not to mention the material their made from but the blocks may be related to each other in some ways

you dont get much better than Mobil 1 - i used to use it until i came friendly with my local parts place. valvoline about same price as Mobil but i get big discount at the part place and they sell valvoline. knocks £10 off 5 litres - trade price basically. had problems in past with that Shell stuff but i think they improved the oil since then.

Hi Guys and girls,

had this problem on the wifes corolla verso and the main dealer fixed it

with a short motor, when we traded it in we asked if the t sport was likely to suffer the same problem,

they said it shouldn't as they are different engines ? and the vvti or vvtli was a description of what

features the engine had reguarding its cylinder head rather than a code for engine type (2zz ge or 1zze)

don't treat this as gospel but thts what we were told.

1zz and 2zz refers to the block - so different blocks. ge and fe refers to the heads......... ge being performance.
