No problem...just makes it a little harder for us to answer, when there's not much to go on...

The US spec differers from the European version.

US:

2wd and 4WD

V6 and 7 seat versions 6cyl and 4cyl

Trim levels vary from European models...

No Diesel

Mostly Automatics

UK/European:

4WD (some older 4.1 models where 2WD)

1.8, 2.0 VVTi, 2.0 D4D, 2.2 D4D 140bhp and 179bhp

Diesel and Petrol models

Manuals and Autos

I have found the RAV4 to be very sporty and gives a good ride too.

I have the 3 door original version which has been my pride and joy for 14 years. It runs on petrol, and does not, nor has ever, suffered from the mechanical problems suffered by the larger 5 door diesel version.

All UK RAV4's are 4 wheel drive with the exception on the RAV4.2 1.8 NV model, which is front wheel drive.

Yes...last NV's would have been made around late 2005.

undate correction

NV was never made when the 4.2 RAV was facelifted so thats around 2003, tap in RAV4 NV on eBay , there are a few for sale.

Any advantage with a 2 wheel drive ?

Is the engine 1.8?

Is this unit any good? or is a 2.0 better?

last of all

I prefer the look of the 3 doors and they appear a bit cheaper - any unseen drawbacks?

thanks again

The 1.8 NV was an entry level RAV4, so first you'll notice the looks ,no alloys or painted bumpers, being the 1.8 from the Celica/corolla/Avensis range its still a sweet engine and i would think its better on fuel consumption and cheaper insurance.

I'm sure if you went for the 1.8 you could pick up a set of alloys off eBay :) and the 3 door is a great choice as it has a sporty SUV look .

The three doors look more sporty than the bigger 5 door (some say better but that's a different argument, 3 doors or 5 doors still a RAV)

Only draw back is that the boot space is all but none existent if you intend to carry much...but for just two people and no bother with boot space, then it suites the job just fine...

Have a look HERE for examples (now I've found the link again) gives a good explanation and view of all models...Blue is of course the best colour to go for.. :D :D :D :D

Hi Clare

It is not untypical in the USA for SUV's derived on a 4X4 platform to be offered as a 4X2. It just satisfies a healthy demand for that style of vehicle to be offered at a lower price.

I guess they just tried it here. I didn't know it was available here until Bob said so. I know what you mean though, it contradicts the whole RAV4 concept. It proves how powerful the US consumer driven market is.

US customer; say, I'd buy one of those but don't like the black interior - its dull,

TUS; sure, we'll do 3 different interior colours and you can choose.

................................................................................

....................

GB customer; I'd buy one of those but don't like the black interior - it's dull.

TGB; We only do black.

GBc; other counties offer different colours?

TGB; We only do black.

GBc; Other manufacturers like VW and BMW do different colours and it brightens it up!

TGB; We only do black (read that as it simplifies production and keeps costs down).

Cheers

Well i think again Toyota were ahead of their time with a crossover vehicle, looks like a 4x4 but front wheel drive only ,its since been done by many manufacturers , the latest being the Nissan qashqui

Would you believe that they have built over 100000 at Sunderland since it was launched

In the mid 90s they were building 195000 primeras a year but only about 5% came here. At that time the biggest markets were the benelux countries so if that is still the case they could well go up significantly this year.
