Got a great deal on some original MR2 alloys with Toyo Proxes tyres.

However will the tyres fit!

They are 195/50/15's.

Max alloys are 16's. Help!

Im pretty sure a customer at our place fitted 5 spoke corolla alloys with 195/45/15's which looked great but the fronts caught on full lock so he went back to 14's. This was a while back so i may have got the numbers wrong lol.

Hi Mart, notes on the Aygo common questions says that combo would work.....so he must have had the 50's like me. It looks very 'borderline' in there..

Darn. Anyone want to buy 4x proxes?

Correction, you are right. I must put my eternal optimism away for a mo. Recommended is 195/40/15. Using a good online calculator:

The new is almost spot on the height of the standard and it helps with the clearance on width.

Darn! Oh well its off to eBay for them.

Thought so lol, during the PDI i also lowered his Aygo with the TTE spring kit so it was quite low. Looked nice on the corolla wheels too.

It's not only the tyre size, but also the rim size that matters...

195's will fit on wheels that are 5" wide as well as 7" wide

and even 8" if you'd wat them to look stupid. And the offset

of the rim has a great deal to do with it too!!!

Hi Jan, the MR2 standard 15" is 6.5J

195/50/15 will not fit I bought second hand ones last week put them on and now the front one are hiting somewhere when u full lock the steering now or I change the tyres or stick spacers on some like 20 mm plus longer bolts aswell but with the spacers the wheel may sticks out of the body and may failed on mot .

Yes 195/50/15 will fit! Thats what I had to run when i had a puncture with one of my 195/45/15 as it was such a hard tyre to find part worn! I never had a problem with running that tyre size and never hd any rubbing. This is how mine now sits on porsche teledials with 20mm adapters 6j all the day round

From personal experience the 50 profile tyres will not fit. My daughter has a C1 for which I got a great deal on pre-used alloys with 195/50/15's. The tyres scrub on the rear arches whenever she has passengers in the back. My wife's Aygo has 195/45/15's which fit perfectly, they don't scrub on arches or on full lock. 195/45/15 with a maximum rim width of 6" and 35-45 offset is the way forward in my opinion. Regards.
