Lots of things you can do, depending on how far you wanna go, how much you wanna spend. You can start with a simple I/H/E upgrade and tweaking with the timing. Other more 'intrusive' upgrades may be metal head gasket, port and polish, lightened flywheel, racing pulley...

I've seen some pretty cool things done to 4afe's, and I've been quite impressed with some of them.
