Supagaurd Maintenance

Hi Guys

just a quick query for you guys in the know about Supagaurd paint protection. Now I know from previous threads that opinion on the effectiveness of this is very much open to debate but as my 07 XTR came with it already I will make my own mind up as time progresses. Anway the thing is this, my sister just recently picked up a new Fiat Grande Punto and as part of her negotiations with the dealer they 'threw in' their equivalent of the supagaurd paint protection but the guy there handed her a maintenance kit and stressed that each time they wash the car it's imperative to add a cap-full of some solution or another contained in this maintenance kit or the protective sealants on the paint would soon wear off. Is this standard procedure? as I got no such kit or advice when I picked up my Rav? Is this something any one on here knows about and should I get back on to the dealer?

As always I would apreciate your thoughts.

Cheers

Paul.

You should definitely have been given a kit with the supagaurd treatment. It consists of shampoo sachets and varios other tins of wheel cleaner and bird lime remover, dusters, sponge, wheel brush etc etc.

As you may have read, I used mine to the letter and I reckon all of the process was gone by about 3 months. I wouldn't pay for it again. After it disappeared I stopped using the very mild shampoo and went back to turtle wax or equivelent. Apart from the wheel brush, the rest of the kit remains unused. I did try the bird lime removing foam one time but spent more time polishing out tiny scratches it left. I wouldn't worry too much but if you paid for the process, get back to the dealer.

You can carry the nice little bag around in your boot like I do!!!

Regards

The basic Supagard set comes with a box of around twelve 'shampoo' sets which are the equivalent to using a mild shampoo in the wash. The important thing with supagard is not to polish your car as a polish will eat through the supagard layer.

You should have got a small certificate to confirm that supagard has been applied to your RAV, if you haven't I would suggest speaking to the dealer as your supagard is useless without it if anything were to happen.

I don't know which product your sister had but the full supagard kit comes with a maintenance bag which comes with top up polish, wheel and tyre cleaner, chamois, brush and numerous other bits...

I'ld have a chat with your dealer....

Nowadays you can buy over the counter car prep and polishes that are as good if not better than the ones the "Dealers" try and flog you
