Fuel Tank Door Mechanism Broken

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of this problem...

I'm not having a good week with my car. It had to go into the body shop after someone scraped down the side. I've just gone to fill up today to discover that the spring mechanism to hold the fuel tank door shut is missing - the cowboys who sorted the scrape had stuffed the recess with paper to keep the door in place. Has anyone had this break on them before? Any idea on costs for repair?

Did you have any joy getting this fixed? I drove into the petrol station last night and went to fill up only to find the mechanism for opening the fuel cover isn't working. Isi it easy to fix yourself or is it best leaving it to the garage to fix?
