Dodgy Idle And Random Cutting Out

Hi I've just bought a 2001 RAV4 3 door 2.0l.

Its my 1st Toyota and its proving to be a nice car, but!

It starts fine but revs high around 1500rpm its cool here but not cold and it does this even if its only been switched off 10 mins, then when approaching traffic lights junctions etc. it'll either drop its revs to 400-500 rpm and shudder or stall completely. So far its not happened every time but does seem to be re-occuring daily.

I'm suspecting the idle control valve is sticking but haven't had chance to get the tech books for it.

Any advice please? Or tales of similar problems and things to watch out for on RAV4s?

Does anyone find that the bumpers and plastic door trims scratch easily?

Thanks guys.

Hi and welcome....we've got a growing number of members in countries all over the place!

Re the engine problem, someone else will post a reply - I'm not sure as you'll probably have the next version of engine to mine. The revs should only be around 800.

Being in Cyprus, from memory, there's lots of stones and dust around - so I'd change the air filter maybe more often than the manual says. The plastic does get scratched fairly easily....I think there's stuff you can get but again somebody here will remember.....
