Help Identifying Engine Version (3s-fe, 5s-fe, 3s-ge)

Hi Chaps, Chapettes,

I have a 91 J reg Japanese import MR2, apparently according to the previous owner its had a new engine fitted in the recent past.

Is there an easy way for me to tell what engine version it has? 3S-FE, 5S-FE, 3S-GE etc?

Is it visable on the engine somewhere? if so where abouts?

Basically I want to know if it has the lower bhp Camery engine...

- On a side note, is the fact its had a new engine a bad thing?

should have 3s-fe or 3s-ge on the cam belt cover on the drivers side of the engine.but if it's an import it should be 3s-ge,as the 3s-fe was the uk engine with lower bhp.

thanks rover, yeah iv heard the imports are all 3s-ge >, but just concerned the 'new' engine its had fitted was the 3s-fe... i'll have a gander where you said, thank you.

hope not mate as you'l lose around 35 horse's if it's the fe-but still good car as i have had a fe and now my ge.

3SFE early rev 1

3SGE rev 1/2 dependent on year

3SGE rev3/4 dependent on year

3SGE beams rev 5 ( i think)

These are all N/A engines then of course theres the turbos

Just looked, mine is 100% identicle to the 2nd pic, so its a "3SGE rev 1/2" , Awesome.

think its a rev1 as it has the standard 14" alloys...thats no biggie though, just glad its the 158bhp (not that i'd tell anyway though lol, i drive like a monk)
