Sounds a bit sick doesn't it ! Presumably these things didn't all appear at the same time ?

1. If yours is eating oil then your best best is to see Mr T and have it assessed and measured. I hear that the oil consumtion problem is under warrant for up to 7 years or 100k.

2. noise when accelerating - could be loads of things, but if it's a kind of scraping noise, then it might be the inner/outer draft shaft bearings. Fairly common problem. About £400 to fix from an indy, or double that from Mr T.

3. Only squeak i had when starting was when the fan belt needed to be changed. It's only about £30, so worth looking to see if this is your problem. Try the wd40 trick and see if squeak disappears.

4. weird noise ? I had a knocking noise which is down to greasing the steering column join. Cost me £2.50 in grease and a lot of fiddling about.

5. No idea

I can only guess because using the term weird as a noise description is pretty hard to match to any particular problem, but hope it might set you on the right path.

Hello there,

Regarding your points about your poorly Avensis I can only offer the following as our 98 GS doesn't drink oil or give any weird accelerating noises but is the squeak anything to do with fan/timing belt? We do get a straining noise when turning full lock but I'm told that's the power steering trying to turn more than the steering rack will allow and the accelerator pedal does stick when first pressing it after a few hours of not using the car. We just give it a quick flip before or just after starting the car. There also is a small stick about halfway depressed which is where the economy light goes off so I usually push through that too!

Hope that helps a bit!

Regards,

Paul.

If you bought this in May 2007 from a Toyota dealer (a toyota approved used car), then you should have warranty until May 2008. The only items not covered are the Battery and exhaust, otherwise the warranty is as with a brand new car (according to Mr T's warranty bumf)

cheers for your answers buddys.

shroud -

1. are you definately sure about 7 years warranty? ifs thats the case i can still get it fixed?

4. nah you can hear it inside the car not outside. it sqeaks! its very anoyyin!

i am considering of swapping it or sell it as this shape avensis is poor! i had the shape before this, had no problems but it was gettin too old.

if i can get the oil consumption fixed on warranty then i will keep it.

could someone please tell me if the 7 years warranty is 100% true for the oil consumption?

Q.S - I brought it from a private seller.

any help is appreciated!

Went to Mr T today they sorted out my engine light problem, my catalyst sensor was gone and my cataylic converter was clogged up. to fixed this he quoted me £320+vat and the oil comsumption issue i would have to get a service history record so they can take picture with it and get a new engine fitted according to the guy there. now i haven't got a service book because i lost it! what should i do? i am considering on part exchanging for a vectra but how much do you guys think i will get for my avensis? its a 51 plate avensis GLS model with 52,000 miles and its in mint condition? a rough idea?

hi mate

i presume that due to a lack of regular maintenance your have got such list.

re oil consumption -- there were many posts on the forum. pls also read mine dd yesterday.

i suggest your engine has not been overhauled yet. re pedal - it is the simple thing to put some grease in each joint.

good luck/igor

Hiya All,

Also have a poorly Avensis, was ok up until June last year since when she has done about 6k miles and used around 8 litres of oil! Used to do about 10K in a year and took about 1 litre of oil to top her up during that period.

Having seen the posts here I contact local dealer this morning. They said there was a five year limit on the extended warranty on this issue.

Phone Mr. T. spoke to Mrs T. in customer relationshion. She explained that they could not tell which vehicles were effected by this problem as it appears random, she also said that the warranty was now for SEVEN years or 112500 miles. She clearly knew what she was talking about explaining about the oil top up test and saying that if it failed this test a short engine would be fitted under the warranty. Explained that the dealer thought it was only a five year warranty to which she replied, "well perhaps they have not had to deal with this situation recently".

Will now follow up with the dealer, they are asking that we top the vehicle up to max, take in as much paperwork as possible, they will check oil and log mileage, they will then contact Toyota in advance with the details and the outcome will depend on the results of the test drive. They are asking that we do about 1k mileage or return earlier if the oil drops to the minimum level.

So to answer the original question here, yes the seven year warranty is correct if customer service have it right, and why should we believe otherwise!.

Chris
