Usually 1 bottle, 1 pump. Sometimes 1 bottle, 2 separate pumps.

Even if only one pump, it can fail in one direction; it spins different way to pump the rear compared to the front.

Most likely pump failure, though could be a blockage in the pipe. Easy test is to switch the hose connections at the pump/pumps then see what happens if you use front and rear washers. If front sprays water on the rear, then probably was the pump at fault.

Cheers for that! but where is the pump?

It's a push fit into the bottom of the washer bottle. So access can be very easy - e.g. on old Rolla just reach in and pull it out - or on the ST185 a nightmare because you have to go in via the wheel arch.

But where-ever your washer fluid is topped up in the engine bay, the pump will be below that. You may or may not be able to reach in and remove it without taking off anything else.

Watch out though - when you remove it all the washer fluid leaks out because it's literally pushed into a hole in the side of the washer bottle very near the bottom; the washer bottle usually has a pump shape cavity molded into it and that grips the pump when it's pressed in, but they usually pop in and out very easily.

Will have an electrickery lead on the top and two water pipes coming out of the bottom (or one pipe in the case of single washer or dual pump systems).
