New Purchase Advice

I've never owned a Toyota before, and I'm looking to purchase a new car soon. Having tried a number of different choices, the Avensis is currently top of my list. However I do have a few questions that I would appreciate some advice before I reach my final decision. I'm looking at a 2.2 D-4D Hatchback.

1) Can anyone explain the difference between the TR spec and the T4? They look almost identical to me. If I buy then the TR is cheaper, but leasing and the TR is a lot more.

2) I'm disappointed that I can't have the Tech Pack with Sat Nav. The Bluetooth/DAB/Sat Nav combo would have been unbeatable. If I get an after-market phone kit (e.g. the Bury System 8), does the Avensis radio support radio muting and phone through the radio Speakers?

3) What maps are provided for the Sat Nav as standard?

Hi I have aT 3S D4D Hatchback, purchased Oct. 06 off the internet ( buyacar.com) I saved £3000. off list, had to wait 6 months for the log book, car has 22 european maps in 8 languages,works very well over there, only complaint, cannot get fresh air in car when heater is on, every car in last 20 years able to do that but not the Avensis . 51 mpg on European autobahns spurts of 110 mph, but sat-nav on new model screen is better. I had to forego,Climate control,cruise control ,electric closing & heated mirrors rear elec Windows and a few bits more for the same price!! Its a daft specification on some of the models.If you want Sat-Nav,you cannot have the other bits!! But I do like the car,cheap to tax £115.00,Cheap to insure. If you go to the Toyota website you can download their Brochure a very good website with every spec. and technical info you could want. Shame at the time of 'writing' my Sat-Nav is 'frozen'

As a comparison, I bought a new 2.2 D4-D T3-X in Sep 06. Saved £2500 off list by showing the dealer a broker price, also haggled down the PCP rate to 6.1% and got £700 (£1800 vs £1100!) more for my trade-in than I had been offered against a pre-reg Avensis at a different dealer 3 months previously. Deal done within the hour and car picked up 2 weeks later (could have had it sooner but waited for the 1st day of the then new plate).

Sorry DM2, I know that doesn't answer your specific questions. I'm equally confused by the similarity between TR and T4, although as a private buyer the cheaper list price seems to make the TR a no-brainer. Guess it also depends on what discounts are available on each model.
