Hello,

This site just seems to be concerned with gripes - but I would just like to add that when coming home tonight, as I was accelerating on the slip road to join the M1 motorway, I left my 2 litre T4 54 reg with 30K miles in fourth gear and whizzed up to 80mph and it sounded quiet, refined, powerful and quite magnificent. I was well impressed and drove home with the smugness of a man who had a fantastic car, with nothing to prove. I sometimes post on this site with minor whinges, but, by god, I love my Avensis. My friends say I should get out more...

make sure you check your oil! lol

I dont think the new avensis engines are effected with the older oil guzzling porblems

How new is new? I've just bought a 55 reg 2.0 VVT-i Avensis with about 33k on the clock. Is that an engine that's likely to be affected? I've read so many different "facts" about this problem over the last month or so it's getting a bit confusing.

I read it was the 1.8 VVT-i engine that had the problems.

I've read this as well, but then I've also seen people complaining about just about every engine there is. I'm hoping that's just because it's the internet and people like to complain, apparently for fun. Oh well, hopefully you're right and I don't need to worry about it.

Still, won't do any harm to check the oil regularly anyway, eh?

To get back to the topic, I've only had the Avensis a few days, but I love it to bits so far. Baby on the way, so a boot I could nearly fit my old Fiesta in is a godsend! :)

I've had mine for around 6 months now and it's hardly used any oil. I serviced it with all genuine Toyota parts when I got it and has run as sweet as a nut ever since.

vvti engines for the avensis

1.6

good engines, abit alittle underpowered.

No oil consumption problems

1.8

reliable, but with high consumption of engine oil

toyota has not admited that these engines have a fault, (dome size of piston, and rings)

2.0

No problems that I am aware of, atleast 5>6 of them i know are now Taxis. owners not reporting problems

and this is a complete new engine design, (i am not 100% but iam sure the same engine is in the celica)
