Bicycle Tyre/spare

Hi Guys

just bought an xtr, great loving it, will post some pics eventually. Was wondering about a spare for longer journeys. I have the "pump & gunk" stuff for a flat tyre but reading the manual it is pretty useless unless you have a nail in the main tread. I was wondering about one of these space saver tyres for much longer journeys and something I could just keep in my garage if the worst should happen. Can the rav be fitted with one of these in an emergency, what are the costs, will the dealer just have a list and how fast can you go on one??

ta muchly

A few people have speculated about using the underfloor storage area to house a space saver but that is about as far as it has gone as far as I know.

The other problem I believe is finding a space saver with the same rolling diameter as the full sized tyres, something to do with avoiding damage to the four wheel drive system.

I think the general answer is to buy a full sized spare for long trips / trips aboard and if necessary strap it to a Roof Rack. Not an ideal solution but better than nothing.

so how much would a full sized spare be??

A 4x4 without a spare wheel/tyre... eh! Whats wrong with fixing it to the rear door where it should be? Am I missing something?

Somebody reported that the space saver from a H cervix was the same rolling radius. I envisage a wooden cover for inside the boot consisting of two wooden runners with a board on top that you could slide the wheel in from the back like this;

I----I but with the dots on top

You could even carpet it and that way you wouldn't need to empty the boot to get your wheel out. It might cost a couple of hundred but at least it solves what might make the difference between having a XTR practical or not.

When I get chance I will cobble a mock up to make it clearer.
