Astral Black Paint Touch Up..

Hi all,

I picked up my 56 registered Prius T- Spirit only yesterday....and am heartbroken to have got my first set of scratches in the rear bumper today... :( :(

I understand that this could be touched up... What is the best way to do this? If I go to a Toyota dealership / service center, how much would this cost? Or would it be practical for me to do it myself?

Please let me know....I'm quite troubled at this happening on the very first day.....

Thanks,

Rajesh

Are they surface scratches or deep scratches? Are they close together or far apart.

Light surface scratches can be removed with "scratch remover" then polish with the correct colour polish both available at Halfords. Be careful not to rub very hard with the scratch remover just enough pressure to remove the scratch.

Deep scratches will always show if you attempt to do a DIY touch up job using Toyota touch up paint etc. A good car body shop could advise you.

I expect you were gutted when it happpened, I would have been.

Hope you get it Sorted.

Chris.

If the scratches are deep it is probably best left to a pro, dentmaster, chips away, these type of companies will usually do you a good deal. As a dealer we also offer this service to our customers, here is a before/after picture of what can be done with a smart repair

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your prompt reply... Yes I was gutted....

There are aboug 5-6 sctractches each around 2 to 3 inches long one on top of the other... The top one seems to be fairly deep :(, with the white colour of the metal shown...

The others are just surface scratches and I think they can be touched up easily.

I also got a Supaguard coating made when I picked up the car (I picked it up from Steven Eagell Aylesbury...btw). I'll also try and check with those guys what I can do.

I guess I'll try to do the best I can...!

Let me know ifyou think of anything else. Thanks once again,

Rajesh

In view of what you say I would take the advise Parts King has given.

It does not seem to me that it is the sort of damage you could achieve a good a good standard finish with unless you are skilled in paint finishing.
