What's the easy way to reomve/change the rear speaker on a gen 7?

I've tried finding info on the forum but only found a guide to remove the front Speakers

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I would imagine very few owners have done this. The question that springs to mind is "why would you want to?".

The rears only supply a little "infill" so are in no need of upgrading. The usual ICE install is a 4 channel Amp with 2 feeding the Sub. and the other 2 looking after the upgraded front components.

cos he wants to? cos he wants his passengers to have a good sound as well! there prob loads more reasons...

Its not ever so easy I'm afraid. That plastic panel that covers them needs to come out, which in turn means removing the rear seats, and the plastic clips that keep it attached to the inside of the car are a real swine to get off. A couple of hours of gentle persuation, for doing it the first time, and you'll prob do really well, but take it easy unclipping things.

If I remember correctly, you'll need to have a drill to drill out the rivets on the old Speakers, and make a new speaker mount from MDF (or buy one). Might want to consider sound deadening while everything's off as well.

The main reason I was thinking of changing the Speakers, is I have 2 pair's of 6" Infinity Speakers just sitting in the garage wasting away, so though as I have 6" in Speakers at the back, might aswell change them, if it was not going to be too muh trouble, I would have changed the front one's already, but as they're component, I'd rather change them for replacement compnents

thanks for the advice, I think I might wait until the weather get's a bit better before getting stuck into it

Good idea. You're not going to be a happy chap if you try it in the cold / rain, cos its not a quick easy job...

  • 1 year later...

i was thinkin of doin the same thing, I read somewhere that someone use the wires for the rear Speakers and connected them to 6 x 9s.

One of the previous owners of my Gen 7 upgraded the sounds in the car.

I am a lover of ICE so i decided to change the Speakers also. When I opened the front ones i saw the me the previous owner had made. The front Speakers didnt work at all because the crossovers were rusted straight through.

Ive replaced them now, and need to replace the rear speakers but by the sounds of it, its not going to be easy. I also read that the sopeakers can be removed without taking the back seats out...it just looks like its going to be very time consuming. Should I just get a shop to fit them. Does anyone know how much it will cost, and maybe some 2 or 3way component speakers I could purchase?

Or a better option would be to replace the rears with some 12" subs.

The rears will require the plastics out and the seats removed..... which isnt difficult just time consuming....
