Considering A Compressor

I'm having a bit of a dilemma!

Currently on my 2nd Tsport, this ones a 2005 with 42,000 on the clock and just about to run out of warranty. The wife is giving me grief about getting a 'new' car. Seat are doing 0% on the Leon FR (which she likes) and I've found 2 compressors on 06 plates with under 8,000 miles on that I fancy. Difference is about £5k in my favour.

If I get a decent trade in on my motor against a compressor I am sorely tempted. Love the Corolla, never had a minutes trouble in nearly five years with them and I like the idea of it being a sleeper (as is the Leon I suppose) but I'm worried what it will be worth in another couple of years. Am I going to get burned, should I go for a Golf?

Auris is out of the question, it's a lardy diesel and feels *****e to drive (sorry!)

Thoughts appreciated...

I was thinking of getting a CTS compressor last year - big problem with the CTS seems to be depreciation and the Toyota dealer that had a compressor for sale just made me an insulting p/x offer for my CTS and wouldn't budge on the price. If you can get a good deal I'd go for it though.

theres 1 on arnold clark the now m8 12 and half grand 06 plate. go for it !

I'm in Glasgow tomorrow morning for a meeting and I've made an appointment to see the car after I'm done. ;)

As a rule, I don't like Arnold Clark, had a lot of problems with them in the past, but if the deal is right...

20k when new bit ridiculous

they are v.cheap now so a decent buy - i liked mine; quick and exciting, miss lift and traction in wet isn't great but it was fun. Consider an old type-r too.

cheap now with low millage because its supercharged. Bit like R32's, a step up, more expensive to run people have their fun and sell on.

// ps

Dont be scared of keeping it out of warranty, if you ragged it it maybe due for a new clutch between 50 and 70k miles and the usual wear and tear but the engines are pretty solid. You will get more wear on the supercharged engines. Coming from a toyota mechanic he said he would be surprised if they last 80k miles without even a minor hitch.

When you test compressor, make sure its running on 99 and do the ignition half on clutch pedal down for up to 40secs (if my memory serves me correctly). This will reset the ecu and make use of the 99ron fuel for that extra bhp. If anyone ever put other fuel in the ECU adjust and can only be reset manually.

I made some mistakes there - it shows i drive a T180 diesel now. Casting my mind back, 99ron is tesco only which is what i used to put in my compressor / t-sport. 98 is also fine which is normal vpower+ stuff.

Also i could be wrong on the ECU reset. Its either the clutch or the accelerator for 40 secs. Try both. I have a T180 and the RAV4 and each car uses different pedals for different tricks. It's been a while.

Good luck
