Its happened. BHG -steam out of exhaust and temperature gauge in the Sun's core range. Stared to

strip down and came to a problem. How the hell do I undo the 2 small nuts on the engine casing which connect the oil pipe to the turbo. It has a rubber gater over it and comes from underneath the central turbo bearing and makes a right angle to the engine casing where it is attached on a flange with two M6 studs and nuts. You cannot see them without a mirror and I can't get my hand in. I even got the missus tpo have a crack and she couldn't get to them either. Any suggestions or tricks ?

Regards

I think you need a 90 degree right angle spanner. Karma Supra always reffers to this as a "turbo spanner"

Does Karma have a picture of it ? Does one exist or will I be getting a grinder and welder out and *****ise one of my current spanners?

  • 5 months later...

i always remove the oil return/feed pipe from the turbo, its a dam sight easier than buggering about at the block, bit fiddley but easier, much easier!

2x 12mm nuts hold it on the outer one is sooo simple the inner a little harder to get too but once your socket is on, off it comes!!

Yup as Mark said, Pull the pipe from the turbo side and remove the turbo and lift it off.....

As for the "turbo spanner" it was a cheapo 14mm spanner that I over exerted at one point (I think heat was involved too) and insteat of snapping it bent in an exagerated banana shape.. its handy for removing the turbo/manifold nuts which can be a PITA!

dont forget the special tool to pull turbo away from manifold, crow bar! lol but more imprtantly when refitting do up the oil feed/return nuts first, then use the 4 manifold nuts to pull it over to the manifold.
